Chapter fifty six: Casually strolling in the enemy's base
The White Star fulfilled his promise to Cale. They were now preparing for a stroll around the town where Cale was. Cale will use this to familiarize himself with the place so they could infiltrate this anytime he wanted.
"Are you ready, Young Master Cale?" Barrow asked.
"Yes! I am!" Cale nodded. Barrow chuckled.
Oops, my words came out in an excited tone, Cale said covering his mouth.
"Shall we?" Barrow asked as he offered his hand.
Cale hesitated for a while as he had to adhere so he could make him remove his chains. Then he took his hand. The White Star smiled and they teleported in some place. He closed his eyes due to how bright the spell was.
The moment Cale opened his eyes once again, he was welcomed by a bustling town.
"This is the Capital of the Endable Kingdom," Barrow said. Cale immediately turned to him.
Really? This is the Endable Kingdom? Rumored to be where vampires live? Cale was certainly in awe.
Then he realized he knew a person who belonged to the vampire race which helped him to calm down.
"I see. I didn't know a place like this existed," Cale responded with a smile.
Right now, Cale will lie as he breathes. Barrow and him walked around. His enemy was doing a great job touring him around. It seemed the White Star was well-known in the Capital since people would greet him.
As they were walking around, a child bumped into him which caused him to fall down.
"Are you alright, Cale?" Barrow asked worriedly as he assisted him to stand. Then, he gently brushed the dirt from his clothes.
"Yes, I am alright," Cale responded as he winced from the pain on his ankle.
No way ..., Cale thought.
Unlucky as he was, Cale's ankle got twisted. His Omnipotence isn't working and his Ancient Powers are currently unresponsive. Hence, he couldn't heal his simple injury.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Barrow asked once again. Cale smiled nervously as he tried to forget the pain on his feet.
"Yes, I am alright," Cale responded.
The child who bumped into him cried nervously and silently. Cale smiled and walked towards him. He bent down to match the child's eye level.
"Are you alright?" Cale asked. The child nodded as his tears and snot spilled.
Cale took a clean handkerchief from his pockets and he gently wiped down the mess on the child's face. Then he placed the handkerchief on the child's hand.
"You can have this," Cale smiled. The child stopped crying and he looked at him in awe.
"T-Thank you, Young Lord," the child said as he smiled bashfully.
The child's parents immediately kneeled in front of them to apologize. Cale told them it was alright and they thanked him.
"You are such a kind child," Barrow commented. He didn't like that Cale got dirty from that.
"Not really, I have younger siblings so I tend to get soft when I encounter children," Cale answered fondly as he remembered his younger brother and sister.
"And I am not a child," Cale glared at Barrow.
Barrow laughed and gently ruffled his hair. Cale wrapped his arms on Barrow's arms. The latter looked at him, slightly bewildered since he didn' expect him to do this.
"I am tired so I am doing this," Cale said as a tint of red colored his cheeks.
Barrow chuckled, "Alright, let's take a break."
The two went to walk for a while until they found a good café. Cale endured the pain from his ankle, wishing for the pain to go away.
"Are you a high-ranking official?" Cale asked while they were taking a break in one of the café in the area.
"Hmm? Yes, I have a position here and I am well-acquainted with the Dukes here," Barrow responded as he sipped his tea.
Cale hummed and continued on observing the people around him. He could hear what they were saying and he couldn't help but to feel repulsed.
Is that Sir Barrow's son? He looks adorable!
I bet he's friends with Young Lord Naru.
Look how happy Sir Barrow is with his son. He must've cherished him so much.
Those were one of the things they said. Cale couldn't help but be ticked off. But looking at their reflection across them, they really looked alike. Their red hair was the same, though Cale has the deepest, blood red color while the White Star had a lighter color. The same with their eyes, Cale had deep-reddish brown eyes while the other had lighter reddish brown eyes. If he somehow lost his memory, he would be convinced that the White Star is his father.
"Shall we continue our tour?" Barrow asked.
Cale was sweating profusely since the pain was making his body cold and heart beat faster. He couldn't endure the pain anymore. He was so used to getting his injuries healed immediately that's why he was having a hard time.
Noticing this, Barrow kneeled in front of him and placed his palm on top of Cale's hand.
"Are you okay?" Barrow asked. He saw some tears in the corner of Cale's eyes.
"My ankle hurt," Cale responded. He needed to get this healed before this got worse.
Barrow folded Cale's pants and rolled his socks to see what was wrong. His face darkened seeing how swollen his foot was.
"I must have hurt it when I fell down earlier," Cale said.
"I see. I think we need to go back for now. We can continue our stroll when you're healed," Barrow replied as he carried Cale in his arms. Naturally, Cale was surprised by this.
Cale looked at the White Star's face and the latter smiled at him. Cale wrapped his arms on his neck.
"I don't understand why you're doing this," Cale whispered as he leaned his head on Barrow's shoulder.
Cale felt a gentle pat on his back.
"Is it wrong to care for such an adorable person like you?" Barrow responded with so much fondness.
Cale felt like crying. He didn't like how he was feeling right now. Before he ascended, he could somehow bury his feelings and emotions but right now he couldn't do it anymore.
Why? Why is my heart like this? Cale asked as his grip unintentionally tightened.
Barrow just sighed inwardly and leaned his head unto the other while gently patting his back.
The two were about to look for a place where they could teleport so no people would see them but the appearance of an unexpected person prevented them.
"Sir Barrow?" Someone called. Cale immediately turned to see Fredo in front of them.
Fredo was shocked to see Cale who was reportedly missing in the arms of Barrow. Luckily, Fredo's expression didn't give it away: that Cale and him knew one another.
"It's rare to see you here, Sir Barrow," Fredo said.
"Ah, I am here with this child. We are just sightseeing, it's his first time here," Barrow responded. Cale smiled and nodded his head.
"I see, what an adorable child. Is he your son?" Fredo asked while looking at Cale with knowing eyes.
"Yes, he is indeed," Barrow replied confidently. "Isn't he cute?"
"Indeed he is," Fredo smiled.
Cale who was hearing this conversation screams internally. But he couldn't react too obviously as their relationship would be revealed if he acted too knowingly.
Since he said 'I am his son', let's play along, Cale sighed inwardly.
"Papa, who is this?" Cale asked childishly. Since I am small, let's act younger.
Barrow felt goosebumps due to how elated he was being called papa by Cale. This time he was truly awake and sober.
"Oh, sorry about that. This person is Duke Fredo, he is an important friend of mine," Barrow introduced. "Duke, this is my son Callen."
"I see, nice to meet you Callen," Duke Fredo smiled. Cale didn't know what to do so he subconsciously hid his face which made Barrow think he was being shy.
"I'm sorry about this, my son is a bit shy," Barrow said. Fredo chuckled.
"It's alright," he responded. "By the way, is something wrong with him?"
"He got injured after falling earlier."
"I see, would you like to stop by my castle to treat him?"
"No, it's alright. We will go back to our home anyway."
"I see. Bring him to the castle next time, Naru will be delighted in meeting him."
"Next time, see you around, Duke Fredo."
Fredo smiled and let them go and watched their backs disappear in the crowds. The vampire couldn't help but shake his head to the trouble known as Cale Henituse.
He'll be fine, he's strong anyway, Duke Fredo said as he walked back to his castle.
Meanwhile, on Cale's side ...
That goddamn vampire didn't insist on going to his castle! Cale thought as he found himself inside the bedroom where he was confined.
Cale was given a highest grade potion and his ankle was completely healed now. The White Star excused himself since he had some backlogs which he couldn't ignore anymore. It was favorable for Cale since there would be no one guarding him close—well there's still the servant outside his room.
Cale jumped off the bed and he could still feel the chains on his neck and limbs. He opened the door and the servant greeted him.
"Is it alright if I walk around the mansion?" Cale asked.
"Yes, Young Master. Let me accompany you," the servant said.
"Alright," Cale smiled.
Cale looked around the mansion. It was a normal one, the servants were also nice and friendly. Cale went out of the mansion and what welcomed him was a simple looking village.
The mansion looked unfitting in the village.
"Why is there a village here?" Cale asked. Upon looking closely, it was an empty village.
Did the White Star kill off everyone here? Cale couldn't help but frown. The butler noticed this and cleared his throat.
"This place is actually a replica of our liege's hometown. That's why it is also empty," the butler answered.
"I see," Cale hummed. "If this is a replica, then what happened to the original one?"
"I'm afraid I won't be able to answer your question, Young Master. Our liege never said anything about it," the butler apologetically said.
"I understand," Cale replied.
Cale walked around the village. He didn't understand the need of creating a replica.
I wonder what happened to him, I know he gets reborn over and over again with his memories intact but what was the consequence of this? Cale thought.
I never saw any information about the White Star aside from him being able to reincarnate everytime he dies, his thoughts continued.
After that uneventful walk, Cale went back inside the mansion. The building really looked out of place in that village. Then, Cale took a turn to a different room filled with scrolls. The redhead opened them one by one and they were all teleportation scrolls.
I wonder where I will be taken if I use this, Cale thought as he slowly ripped the scroll.
Bright lights filled the room and the moment he opened his eyes, he was right in front of the White Star. To be exact, on the White Star's lap.
"Papa!" Cale called in a surprised tone. He didn't expect to teleport directly to where the White Star was.
The White Star was currently inside a meeting room and Cale was facing the other people with his back so he hadn't seen what or who was behind him. The White Star was wearing his signature mask. Cale stared at the White Star face.
Panic overtook Barrow's mind but when he calmed down, he smiled and removed his mask. He eyed the people in the room to not say anything unnecessary. He brushed Cale's face.
"What are you doing here, my child?" Barrow asked.
"I was bored so I looked around the house then I found some papers, I didn't know they were magic scrolls," Cale answered as innocently as possible.
The people inside the room were surprised to see a new face but they definitely knew who the child on their liege lap was. He was the beloved and favored son of the Henituse.
What is he doing here? One of the executives of the organization thought.
Did he betray Rowoon? Another thought.
He's so cozy around our liege, another thought.
They didn't understand why Cale Henituse was with them.
This is dangerous. Cale Henituse is a dangerous person, our liege should know that! Another thought.
Barrow stood while carrying Cale.
"Our meeting is adjourned. I'll contact you at a later date," he said to his people.
"Papa, I can walk fine!" Cale protested.
"It's alright. Not too long ago, you injured yourself," Barrow said as he patted the back of Cale's head.
Then the two disappeared.
Cale and the White Star arrived inside the room. Barrow sighed and put Cale down.
"Cale, you shouldn't wander around like that. What if you got teleported in another place?" Barrow said, worry painted his voice.
"I'm sorry, but I am getting bored here," Cale responded.
Barrow sighed.
"I'll bring something that can entertain you," Barrow said as he left the room.
Cale sat on the couch and analyzed what he saw earlier. It was unnerving to see familiar faces of his enemies. Thinking back, the war between Kingdoms will start in two years. He just hoped Choi Han would do something about it. He didn't make Choi Han remember everything for nothing.
Let's trust Choi Han, Cale thought.
He knew he got careless and got captured by the enemy instead. He didn't like the White Star's obsession towards him. But he let his enemy do what he wanted because of his face. Cale was certainly weak against that face.
Of all people, why my papa? Cale begrudgingly thought as he laid his stomach on the couch.
There is something I am missing here. What is the agreement between the White Star and Despair? And what's the connection of White Star and Papa? His thoughts continued.
And why is Thanatos so obsessed with papa?
Cale resolved himself. He will claim his papa, ahjussi and mother's soul from the God of Death. His goal was to give them a happy and peaceful life. He knew his mother was happy but he wanted to give her justice from the gods who tricked her. As per Kim Rok Soo, Lee Soo Hyuk and Choi Jung Soo, he wanted to give them a peaceful life with the people they loved and cared for. A world where they could do what they always dreamt of.
Cale stood and walked towards the window. He leaned his elbow on the window sill and comfortably placed his chin on the back of his hand.
I'll definitely make it ... I'll definitely give you all a happy and peaceful future, Cale solemnly promised.
Months passed by in a blink of an eye, Cale was casually sipping tea paired with cookies made by the White Star.
"This is really delicious, sir Barrow!" Cale praised. He got used to everything now.
"I am glad you like it, I can make more if you want," Barrow said.
"Really? Thank you!" Cale smiled.
Everyone should be fine without me, right? Cale thought as he happily ate the cookies.
I really love the taste of these cookies. If I ask for the recipe, will he give it?
Cale was certainly making the most out of his captivity. Meanwhile, the people he left behind were getting anxious day by day. They might have received Cale's message that he was fine but they wanted to rescue him if possible.
Deruth was stressing out since they couldn't find his son. Alver and Choi Han were also the same. They wondered how much torture Cale was receiving there.
However, the Cale in question was happily napping, after eating a lot, beside the White Star who was working in world domination.
