Chapter forty: An inch of time is an inch of gold
Choi Han and the others arrived inside the office of the Crown Prince. Alver was already waiting for them.
"It's been a while, Your Highness," Choi Han greeted. The others bowed too.
"Yes, it's been a while, Choi Han-nim," Alver responded.
"I want to express my gratitude in saving the people out there, if not for all of you people may have died," Alver added and smiled.
Lark blushed and timidly scratched the back of his head. Ron, Rosalyn and Vicross didn't give any reactions.
"It was the right thing to do, Your Highness," Choi Han responded.
"I ran after the mage when he teleported away. I was supposed to kill him but he was strong and I only managed to sever his left eye and right arm," Choi Han added.
"I see, too bad you couldn't take him but it's alright. He is a mage, it'll be difficult for him to cast his spells without those," Alver responded.
The crown prince noticed the different demeanor of his instructor. Usually, he was oozing with cheerfulness and positive energy. The Choi Han in front of him reminded him of a hungry beast waiting for its prey. Alver glanced over at the red-haired woman in Choi Han's party.
"You don't have to worry about your identity being revealed, Miss Rosalyn," Alver said and Rosalyn nodded.
They knew one another since they were both royalties. Rosalyn must have had her reasons why she was in the Rowoon Kingdom so Alver didn't pry anymore for he knew Rosalyn won't bring harm to his kingdom.
"Your highness, this is not the end yet," Choi Han said. Alver turned his gaze to the black-haired swordsman.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"The organization who attacked the plaza will do more damage in the near future. I know you are investigating this matter but this isn't a small problem," Choi Han answered.
"Speak of what you know," Alver responded.
Choi Han told Alver what he knew about the organization, though he didn't mention anything that will happen in the future. Changes may occur like what happened in the terror plaza incident. The bombs planted didn't go off, he believed it was the dragons who did it—to keep Basen Henituse safe. Additionally, ten bombs was supposed to explode but there were only eight bombs placed around the plaza and there were six suicide bombers which was different from his first memory.
Choi Han told Alver about the attack on the Harris Village in the Henituse territory and the Blue Wolf Tribe which was located in the forest of Rowoon Kingdom. Currently, Basen offered help in sheltering the survivors of the massacre and Alver took note of that. The crown prince already knew the existence of the dragons in the hands of Henituse, this was also mentioned by Choi Han. They believed the dragons helped them during the incident.
Both Choi Han and the prince wanted to ask for the help of the dragons but Ron intervened with their conversation. Saying the dragons' existence must be kept a secret. That was what Cale had asked the dragons. The redhead didn't want to create another mess because of their existence. Alver nodded in understanding.
"Your highness, I will help you in your investigation," Choi Han said.
"Alright. I would appreciate your help, Choi Han-nim," Alver said as he dismissed them.
Choi Han and the others were given a room in the palace for them to rest. Rosalyn told her group she would be returning to the Breck Kingdom and Choi Han, Lark and Vicross would accompany her. While Ron would be investigating the organization by himself as that was what he requested. For the meantime, their group rested so they could do their jobs the next day.
Meanwhile, Basen arrived in the Henituse villa. His eyes widened as soon as he saw Hans greeting him with two kittens in his arms.
"Welcome back, Young Master," Hans greeted him.
"Hans? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to tend to my brother?" Basen asked, slightly confused.
"He is waiting for you upstairs, he overworked himself so he is resting," Hans answered him as the kittens jumped from his arms and led the way, excitedly.
"What? My brother's here?" Basen asked as he walked as fast as he could.
Basen opened the room next to his and there he saw his older brother sitting on top of his bed.
"Hyung?" Basen called, Cale turned to him and smiled as he spread his arms asking for an embrace.
"Welcome back, Basen!" Cale smiled. The younger one threw his body onto Cale to hug him.
"Hyung!" Basen cried. Cale leaned his head onto Basen's and gently patted his back.
"You grew up well, Basen," Cale said, wiping his brother's tears.
"I'm sorry, hyung. If I was strong that time, you wouldn't have to experience that alone," Basen said, Cale just shook his head.
"What are you talking about, Basen? It's nobody's fault, stop blaming yourself," Cale responded as he cupped his brother's face.
Basen cried for a good while, clinging onto Cale. The redhead just let him, comforting him. Cale told him he woke up days after Basen went to the Capital and he immediately followed him as he had sensed something bad coming to his brother. Basen was moved because his brother always cared for him.
"Hyung, good thing Father let you follow me," Basen commented.
"Well, I had to convince both dad and mother to let me, you know," Cale responded.
"Did you call them when you arrived here? I am sure they're worried about you since you just woke up."
"I did. It's just that I made the call at the wrong time."
Cale recalled when he called his father to inform him they arrived safely in the Capital. During that time, the redhead activated his All-Seeing Eyes to observe what was happening. At first, he was supposed to let the dragons do the work but when he saw Basen in grave danger, he activated the shield to envelope the suicide bombers. The Indestructible Shield reached the suicide bombers due to Cale's Omnipotence amplifying the ancient power. His father was panicking seeing Cale's expression.
[Cale, what is happening?] Deruth asked over the communication device.
"There is a terrorist attack in the plaza where Basen is," Cale answered, slightly struggling to keep his ancient power activated in its fullest.
Cale didn't hear what his father was saying since the bombs went off. Due to this, the impact of the bombs were all reflected on his body which made him cough up blood. The kittens beside him panicked.
On the other side of the communication device, Deruth saw his son coughing out blood. It wasn't stopping. His face paled and his hands trembled.
[Cale!] Deruth called out. Cale finally deactivated his powers as he slumped down.
"I am alright, dad. I am worried about Basen," Cale said drowsily. This was the first time he used his powers after sleeping for a long time.
[Cale! I forbid you from using your power. For goodness sake, Cale, you just woke up! Once Basen comes back, the two of you have to go back here immediately.] Deruth demanded.
"But dad—"
[No buts! This is an order, Cale. Once you get back home, prepare yourself.] Deruth said as he hung up.
Their father was definitely angry.
"Hyung, you are smart but you are also stupid," Basen said.
"What?! How dare you call me stupid!" Cale roared, then Basen pinched his brother's cheeks.
"I hope you will not forget that there are people who worry for your safety. Don't just take lightly our feelings, we do not want you to protect us at the expense of hurting yourself," Basen said, sounding worried.
"I'm sorry," Cale softly said.
Hans entered the room and delivered their food. Cale told them to prepare for an outing today. Basen also mentioned he was sheltering the survivors of the Blue Wolf Tribe massacre and Cale nodded.
"Hm, I guess I'll help you with taking care of them. Do not worry about their financial aid, I'll cover for it," Cale said.
"Basen, don't mention to anyone about me, okay? I'm not yet ready to face the others," Cale added. Basen chuckled.
"Alright, hyung. But how will you go out? People will eventually recognize you because of your hair," Basen responded.
"Don't worry about that. Raon will use his magic to change the color of my hair," Cale said.
Basen knew of the existence of the dragons. Youna, the red dragon. Olienne, the green dragon. Eruhaben, the golden dragon. And Raon, the black dragon. He always wondered how his brother met these dragons.
"Cale, I'm going back to my lair for a while. A messenger from the World Tree summoned me," Eruhaben said.
"It's alright. It's the same for you, Grandpa Oli, right? I'll just have Raon and Youna with me. Will that be alright for you, two?" Cale responded and turned to the dragon siblings to ask.
"Of course, human. You're weak, you need my protection," Raon answered.
"That is not something you need to ask me, Cale. I'll always stay where you are," Youna responded.
After eating their meal and Cale regained his strength, Hans along with the cat children, wolf children, and the dragon siblings, who were in their human forms, waited for them downstairs. Cale used a walking cane to help him walk since his legs haven't fully regained their strength. Basen was assisting his brother. Now, Cale had a black, long hair tied in a half ponytail to disguise himself. The people waiting for them stared in awe.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Cale asked.
"Human, you're pretty. Our hair colors are the same," Raon answered. Cale just patted his head.
"So you are the wolf children, am I right?" Cale turned to the ten kids in front of him.
"Don't worry, I will never harm you. I am Cale, this is the first time you've seen me, right? I am Basen's older brother," Cale smiled.
"And I hope you won't speak of my name to anyone. Just to be safe, alright?" Cale said. The wolf children nodded.
Cale instructed Hans they'll be buying things for their newly adopted children, souvenirs for his family and gifts for some people. He didn't specify to whom the gifts would be given. The group boarded their carriages and went to the city.
Their first stop was the boutique. Cale wanted these children to wear great quality clothes since he had a lot of money in hand, he could use it whenever he wanted. The owner greeted Cale and they were led to a VIP room after seeing the high quality materials they were wearing. The wolf children were rather shy so Cale encouraged them to choose whatever they like. The cat children and dragon siblings were choosing their clothes freely as Youna told them it was okay to select as many clothes as they wanted. Cale sat on the couch as he oversaw their clothing choice. Hans, the other servants and some employees were helping the children in trying out the clothes.
"This is the first time we did something like this, am I right Basen?" Cale asked as he sipped the tea offered to him.
"That's right. I was too busy studying before I couldn't hang out with you like this when we were kids," Basen answered, slightly saddened at the memory.
He wanted to catch up to his brother and to spend time with him by going out around the town. But he never got the chance when Cale fell into a coma. Upon noticing Basen's mood, Cale ruffled his hair.
"Don't worry about it. I am okay now, we can always go out with Lily when you want to," Cale said and smiled.
Then, in that boutique, a sudden fashion show occurred. The children showed their choice to Cale and the redhead requested for another batch of clothing to try on. Of course, everything they tried on was bought by Cale. The employees silently cried for joy.
"Young Master, this is too much," Maes said, he was the older brother of these wolf children.
"Hmm? Not at all. I don't want you to wear the same clothes over and over again. Now that you are in my care, I want you to at least enjoy your life without worrying about what to wear, where to sleep and what to eat," Cale explained. "You don't have to act like an adult and be reserved at all times, be a child like the way you are."
Maes and the other wolf children were still reluctant. Of course they were happy, even though they were strangers, this person was treating them as if they were his children.
"You can't change his mind once he has decided on something. I knew since he was like that before," Youna commented. The wolf children didn't know the identity of the dragons. They knew about Ohn and Hong since they were all beast children.
After wiping out the children's section in that boutique, their next stop was a confectionary store. Cale has been asleep for a long time, he wondered what the sweets tastes like over the years. They were all seated at a long table and the children chose whatever they liked with no reservation. Basen wasn't particularly fond of sweets so he just ordered a parfait. Cale ate the things he hadn't tried before.
Once they're done, they all went to the toy shop and magic shop. They were divided in groups, since some of the wolf children were still too young to train, Cale asked Hans to choose some toys for them. Those children who could start training were guided by the Vice Captain in an armory store while the dragons were inside the magic store. Cale and Basen went to a souvenir shop to buy things for their parents and sister. In summary, Cale just bought everything they and the children fancied.
That night, Basen and the others turned in for the night. Youna couldn't stay with Cale in his room since he was too big. He envied his brother who was still too small. Cale told him he could still sleep with him in his human form which Youna refused—since he always went back to his dragon form when he was in deep sleep. Raon, Ohn and Hong will be sleeping beside Cale.
"Did you have fun today, Ohn, Hong, Raon?" Cale asked as he gently patted their furs and scales.
"Yes! Today's super fun! I haven't done anything like that before," Hong answered excitedly. Cale chuckled.
"Is that so? That's great to hear," Cale responded.
"Hmp, I had fun as well today too, human. This is the first time I hung out with you since you were asleep by the time I was born," Raon answered. Ohn and Hong knew about Cale being in a coma before since it was a hot topic in the Henituse Territory when they got there.
"Yeah. I've missed out on so many things when I was asleep. But it isn't too late, I can still make up for the days I've missed," Cale said as his eyes started to drop. He felt really tired today.
"Good night, Ohn, Hong, Raon," Cale muttered as he completely fell asleep.
"Good night, Cale. Thank you," the three children said in unison.
Cale woke up in the middle of the night, the children by his side were sleeping peacefully so he was careful in going off the bed to prevent them from waking up. He went out of the room to walk around the garden to get some fresh air. His steps were careful and light as if he was floating. The elementals around him were buzzing, though he didn't mind some extra noise.
When he was asleep, he couldn't feel anything. No warmth or cold. He couldn't even hear anything. It was like he was devoid of his own five senses. It honestly scared him but his dream somewhat calmed him down. By the time he woke up, all of his memories from his first timeline to all his travels were all recovered.
Cale always wondered what his family was doing, how his brother and sister, what his friends were talking about and many more. He felt left out so he was kind of shy to appear before his friends. He didn't know what to say to them. He slightly forgot how he usually speaks with them.
"Ah, I wonder if hyung finally established his position in the palace," Cale unconsciously muttered then his Omnipotence activated and brought him somewhere.
Meanwhile, Alver Crossman, the Crown Prince, entered his room. His headache was throbbing and he felt incredibly stressed out. He was in his father's office talking about the terrorists' attack earlier. He was so tired and sleepy and his headache was not making it easy for him.
He laid on his back on his bed, he didn't have any energy to change his clothes. His eyes drooped and then he heard someone enter his room. He couldn't open his eyes any longer since he was incredibly exhausted today.
"Hyung," a voice called out to him as he felt their hands on his forehead.
Who? Alver thought. He tried to open his eyes and all he could see was a silhouette of a person.
"Good thing you aren't sick. It'll be bad if you fall ill," the voice spoke again. Alver wanted to respond but his voice wasn't coming out.
"Hyung, you grew up well too! You became more handsome! Oh, you are always handsome," the voice laughed. The voice sounded sweet and he wanted to hear more.
"Hyung, how are you? It seems you are working hard but don't overwork yourself, okay?" The voice continued then he felt a hand caressing his hair.
This touch ... Alver thought as he kept his eyes closed.
"By the way, hyung, can you give these gifts to the heroes? You already named them heroes, each weapon has their own names. They know who their owner is," the voice said.
"We will properly meet soon, hyung. For now, sleep well. See you later," the voice finally faded as the crown prince fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, Alver shot up as he remembered the events last night. He dreamt of someone, it was Cale. Cale visited him last night however it was just a dream. He sighed then his eyes wandered on the table. He found the weapons Cale was talking about.
"What? Was I actually dreaming last night or was it reality?" Alver asked.
I haven't received any news from Youna so it might not be Cale who left these, Alver thought.
But the dream felt so real. His touch, his voice, his laugh ... it was all real.
