Chapter thirty-eight: Cats on the alley
Three days passed since Choi Han departed from the Henituse Territory. They were currently traveling to where the black dragon would attack. In his memories, the rampaging black dragon destroyed the village at the foot of the mountain and he killed people. He wanted to prevent that from happening.
Behind the hero and his companion, Basen was also traveling to his destination: the Capital. Youna and Oli were making sure he was safe, after all they promised Cale about their safety. Their travels went on without an issue. In three days they reached Puzzle City without any dangers on the road. Though, there were some issues Basen faced when they crossed roads with Venion Stan. But nothing could be done to him as he could defend himself plus the pressure of the dragon fear.
This baffled Choi Han, they reached halfway to the capital without the dangers of the black dragon.
What happened to the black dragon? Why did it disappear? Choi Han thought as he stood in front of a rock tower.
If I didn't experience this for the second time, I'd probably make a wish upon these rock towers like I did the first time, Choi Han thought as he focused his eyes on the rock tower.
Since Choi Han knew where the organization would appear next, he and his companion continued their travel to the Blue Wolf Tribe. He hoped that his arrival wasn't too late.
Meanwhile, in the Henituse Estate, the black dragon was currently napping beside Cale Henituse. Deruth was currently attending some business inside the estate. Lily and Hans were the only ones seated near him. Then, the three of them stood when they heard a groan from Cale.
"Hans! Call father and a physician! Inform mother as well!" Lily quickly ordered as she approached her older brother.
"Yes, Young Miss!" Hans immediately went off.
The black dragon flew on top of them and Lily held his brother's hand. Her eyes welled up with tears as Cale slowly opened his eyes revealing the clear, reddish-brown eyes of her beloved brother.
"Oraboeni!" Lily yelled as she threw herself onto Cale, which earned a laugh from the redhead.
Cale wanted to speak but his voice wasn't coming out. He tried to sit up but his arms failed him so Lily assisted him. She also handed Cale a glass of water for him to refresh his vocal box.
"Thank you, Lily," Cale smiled, though his voice sounded raspy. Lily's tears fell uncontrollably as she hugged his brother again, the redhead returned her hug.
Hans quickly called a physician and informed the Count and Countess about the possibility of Cale waking up today. Deruth and Violan instantly ran towards the greenhouse to see their son. Hans followed them with the physician. Upon entering the greenhouse, they found the redhead sitting up as he hugged his sister after a long time. Both the Count and Countess had tears in their eyes seeing their son awoke.
"Cale," Deruth called as he approached his son, his eyes shaking as if he couldn't believe it.
"Dad," Cale smiled at his father. Deruth immediately hugged his son as he sobbed.
"I thought you will never wake up," Deruth cried, Cale hugged his father tightly as his eyebrows knitted.
"I'm sorry for making you worry. I am alright now," Cale quietly said. Deruth released his son from his embrace as he gently caressed Cale's head and face.
The physician checked Cale. He was told that he needed some exercise to strengthen his unused muscles. The physician also mentioned Cale was asleep for three years which surprised the latter, still the redhead expected it. Additionally, the physician reminded Cale to eat properly so he would soon regain his strength and healthy body. After the physician guaranteed there was nothing wrong in Cale's body, he was dismissed.
"So I've been out for three years, huh," Cale muttered.
"Everyone grew up well, that's great," Cale smiled.
"Orabeoni, how come you recognized me immediately? The last time you saw me I was still small," Lily spoke. Cale gently patted Lily's head.
"Of course I'll recognize my own sister. Even if you grow old, I will never mistake my brother and sister for someone else," Cale responded, which made his little sister blush out of happiness. Deruth and Violan cooed over their children.
"Oh, speaking of ... where's Basen?" He asked.
"Basen is currently on his way to the Capital. He represented our family for His Majesty's Birthday Banquet," Deruth answered.
Cale's expression turned serious and it didn't go unnoticed by the people present. The redhead knew Youna would still be keeping his promise of keeping his family safe.
Olienne and Youna were both mighty dragons, they'll definitely notice something. Though to be safe, I needed to contact them, Cale suddenly got lost in his own thoughts.
Deruth sighed and placed his hand on top of his son's hand. Cale looked at his father and he could see his dad was worried about him.
"Is there something wrong, Cale?" He asked. Cale shook his head.
"Nothing's wrong, dad. I am just thinking of going to the Capital too," Cale answered.
"But son, you still need to rest. You just woke up and you're planning on going somewhere already," Violan interposed.
"That's true but I really want to move around. And I want to surprise Basen by going there," Cale responded. Both of his parents weren't convinced yet. They wanted him to stay in the estate until he regained his strength.
"I'll take Hans with me and the Vice Captain, so can I go?" Cale pleaded as he clasped his hand while showing his ever charming eyes and expression.
Violan and Deruth wavered. Seeing their son awake made them want to adhere to everything Cale asked. Deruth covered her face with his right hand and sighed.
"Cale, a lot of things happen when you're asleep. Ask Hans if you have questions, okay? I'll let you go to the Capital but don't do anything that will endanger your safety. I'll arrange the knights who will come with you," Deruth finally yielded.
"Thank you, dad," Cale smiled.
After telling Cale a brief summary of what happened while he was asleep, Deruth and Violan dismissed themselves since they had plenty of work they needed to do. Lily returned to train her sword and Hans went to the kitchen to get his food. Cale leaned on the headboard as he took out something inside his spatial bag.
"Hmm, how did they make this? And when?" Cale muttered as he looked at the ring in his hand which was the top's whip he got from the Wind Island.
Cale wore the ring and he instantly heard the voices of the elementals around him. He laughed as soon as heard them.
"It's been a while isn't it, little ones?" Cale asked as he smiled. If anyone would hear him, they would think Cale was losing his mind.
It's Cale! He can hear us!
Now you're awake, let's cause some chaos! HAHAHA
Calee, we've been good! We looked after you while you were sleeping!
"I see, thank you little ones. And no destruction for now, okay?" Cale chuckled as he heard the groaning complaints of the red elemental.
"Oh yeah, I haven't forgotten about you, little dragon. You finally hatched," Cale turned to the invisible black dragon beside him. The dragon removed his invisibility and appeared before him.
"So this is how you look, nice to meet you. As you may already know, I am Cale. How about you?" Cale told him.
The black dragon carefully examined him. Youna, Moss Gramps, and Goldie Gramps may have told him he was trustworthy but this was his first time meeting him.
"I ... I don't have a name. I don't like the name Goldie gramps and Moss gramps gave me," he responded.
"I see, they might have given you lame names," Cale snickered as he remembered the red dragon's name given by the ancient dragons.
"That's right! They don't have any artistry with the names they call me! They address me as Blackie or Blue and those are lame names!" The black dragon expressed his distaste. Cale nodded in agreement.
"Those ... are really boooring!" Cale seconded.
"That's why I want a cool name like my hyung! He said you gave him the name, I'd also grant you the honor of naming me," the black dragon stared at Cale. The redhead reached his hand as he gently patted the round head of the black dragon.
"All right. Hm, since Youna is granted by name of light, I'll give you the name for joy. From now on you'll be called Raon," Cale said with a smile.
"Raon and Youna are both children of the late Dragon Lord. The two of you were her light and joy that's why I gave you the names fitting for your mother's hopes and dreams for you," Cale explained. The black dragon carefully listened to him.
"Youna. The name for light. Raon. The name for joy. You both share the same last name, Miru, for the two of you are both mighty and strong dragons," Cale added. The black dragon flew around.
"Raon. Raon Miru, that's my name! It isn't the lame name Blackie or Blue! I like it. Rejoice, weak human. I'll grant you the honor of using the name you gave me," Raon smiled as he flew around in joy. Cale chuckled.
Ah, they're truly brothers, Cale thought as he watched the black dragon fly in joy.
When Raon calmed down, Cale asked him to call Youna or Olienne. The two dragons were happy to see Cale and wanted to teleport to where he was but the redhead prevented them. Cale instructed them about what was about to happen in the Capital and he asked them to searched for the magic bombs around the plaza. He also said that he'll be there and to keep the news about him being awake a secret to Basen. Then, Hans arrived and gave Cale the food he asked for. After eating, Cale started to use his legs, though slightly shaking due to being unused, Hans were helping him.
The next day, Hans prepared for their departure and Cale was currently sitting on a wheelchair since he still couldn't walk and stand properly. Raon remained invisible and he was resting on Cale's lap.
"Cale, I have a lot to ask once you get back. I couldn't do so right now since the county is currently busy. Let's have some one-on-one talk later, okay? Be safe out there," Deruth spoke as he patted Cale's head.
"I will, dad. Be safe too," Cale responded as Hans boarded the young master in the carriage.
Deruth instructed the knights to keep his son safe. The knights gladly and proudly accepted the job. They wanted to pay back their young master's protection during the last attack three years ago.
"We'll be going now, dad and mother. See you," Cale waved his hand. Then, they departed.
In the alleyways of the city, there were two cats lying on the ground battered, wounded and hungry. The silver kitten was suffering from a high fever due to the bruises she got after she got beaten up when she was asking for scraps of food. While the red kitten was wounded and bruised after he begged for food and medicine for his sister. The red kitten was a few meters away from his sister, who was lying and unmoving not far from him.
The silver kitten tried to open her eyes and saw her one and only brother. She tried to walk up to him but her heavy body couldn't move freely.
Are we going to die here? After we finally got away from those who wanted to kill us, will we really die in the end? The silver kitten thought as she cried.
I am hungry and my body hurts. I am sure my brother feels the same, she cried.
The silver kitten started to get dizzy and her eyes started to drop. Before she completely closed her eyes, she saw a glimpse of a red-haired human with an orange-hair coming to pick her up. Then, she blacked out.
Cale and the others were on their way out headed to the Capital when he suddenly heard whimpers coming from the alleyways.
"Hans, stop the carriage," Cale ordered and the butler followed. Their carriage stopped in the middle of the city.
Help ... help us, Cale suddenly heard a voice coming from the alley.
"Hans, I want to get out of this carriage. I am hearing something from that alley," Cale said as he pointed at the alleyway.
"But—"
"No buts! This is urgent," Cale ordered.
Hans helped Cale get out of the carriage as he pushed his wheelchair. Then they saw two kittens lying on the ground and they looked like they were in a bad condition.
"Hans, helped those kittens. We will bring them with us," Cale instructed and Hans took a blanket to wrap the two kittens.
Hans frowned when he saw the state of the kittens. He was a cat lover and seeing this made his heart break. After securing the kittens, they went back to the carriage.
Cale asked Hans to place the kittens in a soft cushion and luckily they brought one. The kittens were dirty and the red one was wounded. As they travel, Cale tended to the wounds of the kittens and Hans assisted him in doing so.
"Hans when we get to our stop, give them a medicinal bath and bring them to my room, okay? Prepare food for them as well, they look famished and they won't be waking up for a while," Cale said as he gently caressed the fur of two cats.
"Yes, young master," Hans nodded.
Raon kept the temperature warm for the two kittens as per Cale's request. There were no issues when they traveled and they finally reached the Tolz territory. They landed in the only available lodging there.
Hans prepared the things Cale asked for. He gave the kittens a medicinal bath to clean their wounds. After that, he went down to prepare the kittens' food and the young master's food.
When Hans got out, Cale placed his palms on top of the two kittens and sang a song. This way, the kittens will no longer suffer from the pain in their wounds and bruises.
The silver and red kitten groaned as they opened their eyes. As soon as they saw the red-haired stranger, they stood up and hissed.
"Don't worry, I will not hurt you. I apologize for taking you without permission but you two were really in big trouble out there," Cale said. The red kitten eased up but the silver one was still wary of him.
"I am Cale and I found you in the alleyway. We took you to tend to your injuries. Don't worry, I won't ask for any payment. I just want to help you," Cale added.
Cale? The firstborn of the territory's lord? The silver kitten thought.
She was familiar with the name since she heard it all the time when she was asking for food. Cale was known as the role model firstborn of the territory's lord. The people in that place loved him so she heard his name a lot. The people said Cale protected his family when they were in danger and he was kind to the people.
The silver kitten stared at Cale and the latter smiled at the kitten.
He won't hurt us, right? I can probably trust him, right? She thought as she felt tears coming out from her eyes.
Cale slowly reached his arms out to wipe the tears of the young child. He already knew what they were.
"I already knew what you are. The two of you are not normal cats," Cale said which made the two kittens flinch and backed away.
"I will never hurt you, if I want to do that I wouldn't save you. If you don't have anywhere to go, you may come with us. We will give you shelter, food and clothing. I will let you decide, okay?" Cale reassured them. The two kittens looked at one another and the black dragon quietly watched them.
"What will be in it for you?" the silver kitten asked. She wanted to make sure what he would ask for them.
"Hmm? I don't need anything. You don't have to worry about that. I will never ask children to work for me. For now, I guess I'll ask you to live however you want and enjoy your days with me," Cale answered.
The silver kitten contemplated for a while then Hans knocked, delivering their food. Cale told them to eat first before they continue their conversation. The two kittens ate heartily as this was the first proper food they ate after they ran away. The food wasn't scraps or spoiled, it was fresh, warm and newly cooked. As Cale, Raon, and the two kittens eat their dinner, the felines couldn't help but cry as they chew their food. Once in a while, Cale would wipe the food mess on their mouths as he placed another serving of food to them.
I didn't know these children existed. During my first life, I didn't know of cat children. If I didn't find them, what would happen to them? Cale thought as he watched the kittens eat their fills.
The place where I found them was cold and damp. They were in a bad condition and injuries were all over their bodies. They were too thin for their age, must be due to malnutrition, Cale closed his eyes and sighed. Who would do this to children?
After eating, Hans tidied the table and turned it for the night leaving Cale and the kittens in their room. The black dragon appeared before them and Cale beckoned to sit beside him. Raon sat on Cale's lap as the redhead gently patted his head.
"This is Raon Miru, he is one of my companions. If you decide to live with us I will make sure you will never have to worry about where you sleep and your food," Cale said.
The two kittens looked at one another and nodded at each other. They already decided to stay with Cale since they knew of his name. The people trusted this red-haired young master. He was loved by the people. And his smile made their hearts warm.
"Ohn. My name is Ohn and this is my brother Hong," the silver kitten introduced as her brother nodded.
"We are children from the Fog Cat Tribe," Ohn added.
"Alright, Ohn, Hong. Nice to meet you. Let's all get along," Cale responded with a smile.
Cale and the three children slept peacefully that night. Ohn and Hong cuddled near their human and vowed to keep him safe in return for his kindness, though the human didn't ask for it they would still do it. The two kittens felt happy upon meeting the red-haired human after all the nightmares, hunger, and sufferings they had to endure. Even after their parents died, this was the first time they felt welcomed. They were imprisoned in their tribe and their kin wanted to kill them. When they escaped, other cat tribes chased them away for they were deemed as useless. Today, Ohn and Hong felt they finally found their place. It was strange since they only met today but their gut feelings were telling them to trust this person.
"Thank you, Cale," Ohn softly muttered as she drifted off to sleep.
