Chap 1.5

It’s been a few weeks since Thomas moved into Marceline’s cave. He’s starting to get the hang of Ooo’s quirks, but today, something unusual is brewing. Finn and Jake burst into the cave, out of breath and carrying a strange, glowing artifact.

Finn: "Thomas! Marceline! You guys gotta see this!"

Jake: stretching into a giant hand to hold up the artifact—a small, pulsating orb "We found it in some creepy ruins! PB says it’s super old, like, pre-war old!"

Thomas, sitting on his ledge strumming an old guitar, looks up with interest. Marceline floats over, eyeing the orb suspiciously.

Marceline: "Okay, first off, why do you two always bring weird, probably cursed stuff to my cave?"

Thomas: sets the guitar down, his green eyes narrowing "Pre-war, you say? What does it do?"

Finn: "PB’s not sure yet, but it started glowing when we got near the ruins where we found your pod, Thomas! We thought maybe you’d know something about it."

Thomas stands and approaches the orb, his expression a mix of curiosity and unease. The glow seems to pulse in sync with his heartbeat.

Thomas: "This... feels familiar. Like something I saw on Vug, before the war. My people were working on energy sources—something about harnessing life itself."

Marceline: raises an eyebrow "Harnessing life? Sounds like the kind of thing that gets you a one-way ticket to a stasis pod."

Jake: "Or a ticket to a monster fight! What if this thing’s, like, powering some ancient beast?"

As if on cue, the orb pulses brighter, and a low rumble shakes the cave. The Cave Wurms go silent, which is never a good sign.

Thomas: instinctively steps in front of Marceline, his reflexes kicking in "That’s not the Wurms."

Finn: grinning, pulling out his sword "Adventure time, baby!"

Marceline: grabs her bass, which doubles as an axe "Alright, new guy. Let’s see how you handle a real Ooo mystery. You in?"

Thomas: cracks a rare, dry smile "A thousand years of sleep, and now I’m fighting glowing orbs with a vampire queen. Why not?"

The group heads out of the cave, following the orb’s pulses, which seem to be leading them back to the ruins where Thomas’s pod was found. As they trek through Ooo’s vibrant, bizarre landscape, Thomas feels a spark of purpose reigniting—maybe this orb holds answers about Vug, his immortality, or why he was chosen to survive.

The group—Thomas, Finn, Jake, and Marceline—treks through the vibrant, surreal forests of Ooo, following the pulsing glow of the mysterious orb Jake’s carrying. The air hums with strange energy, and the trees around them seem to whisper, their leaves flickering with unnatural colors. Thomas, still adjusting to Ooo’s wildness, keeps a steady pace, his green eyes scanning the horizon for clues about the ruins they’re heading toward.

Thomas: muttering, half to himself “This orb… it’s like something from Vug’s old experiments. But why’s it reacting to me?”
Marceline: floating beside him, strumming her bass lightly “Maybe it’s got a crush on you, old man. You’re giving off serious ancient vibes.”

Finn: grinning, sword slung over his shoulder “Yeah, dude, you’re like a walking history book! Bet this thing’s gonna lead us to some crazy pre-war secrets!”

Jake: stretching into a giant magnifying glass to inspect the orb “It’s getting brighter, yo. We’re definitely close to something big.”

As they approach the ruins where Thomas’s stasis pod was found, the ground begins to tremble slightly. The orb pulses faster, emitting a low hum that makes the air feel heavy. The ruins are a crumbling mess of ancient tech and overgrown vines, with strange, rune-covered stones scattered around. A faint, eerie glow emanates from deep within a cracked stone archway.

Thomas: stopping in his tracks, his voice tense “That’s it. That’s where they found me. But… I don’t remember this glow before.”

Marceline: narrowing her eyes “Yeah, this place is giving me bad vibes. Like, ‘summon an ancient evil’ bad vibes.”
Jake: shrinking back to normal size, looking nervous “Oh man, why’s it always gotta be ancient evils? Can’t we just find, like, a cool treasure or something?”

Finn: pumping his fist “Treasure, evil, whatever! Let’s check it out! Thomas, you ready for your first real Ooo dungeon crawl?”

Thomas: cracking his knuckles, a faint smile on his face “I’ve survived a thousand years. I think I can handle a creepy ruin.”

The group cautiously enters the archway, the orb’s glow lighting their path. Inside, the ruins open into a vast underground chamber lined with cracked monitors, rusted machinery, and strange, glowing crystals embedded in the walls. The air smells faintly of ozone, and faint whispers echo, too soft to make out.

Marceline: sniffing the air “Smells like old tech and magic. Not a great combo.”
Thomas: running his hand along a dusty control panel, his expression distant “This… this is pre-war tech. Vug had labs like this. They were working on something called Project Eternity. I thought it was just a rumor…”

Finn: “Project Eternity? Sounds like something that’d make you immortal, dude!”

Thomas: nodding slowly “Maybe. They never told me much. Just that I was… important.”

Suddenly, the orb in Jake’s hands flares brightly, and the whispers grow louder, forming coherent words in a language Thomas recognizes—the Vug tongue. The ground shakes violently, and a massive, shadowy figure begins to form in the center of the chamber. It’s humanoid but distorted, with glowing eyes and tendrils of dark energy curling around it.

Shadow Figure: in a deep, echoing voice, speaking Vug “Aiabzuwjaaoabx… The Eternal One has returned… The cycle must complete…”

Thomas: stepping back, his eyes wide “It’s speaking my language. It knows me.”

Jake: stretching into a shield to protect Finn “Uh, Thomas, buddy, what’s it saying? And why does it look like it wants to eat us?”

Marceline: brandishing her bass-axe “Doesn’t matter. If it’s trouble, we’re taking it down!”

Finn: charging forward “Yeah! Let’s do this, Ooo style!”

Thomas hesitates, his mind racing with fragmented memories of Vug—flashes of scientists, warnings about a “cycle,” and his own selection for the stasis pod. The shadow figure lunges, its tendrils lashing out. Thomas instinctively dodges with his enhanced reflexes, grabbing a rusted pipe from the ground and wielding it like a staff.

Thomas: “Finn, watch its movements! It’s fast but predictable!”

Finn: parrying a tendril with his sword “Got it! Jake, can you pin it down?”

Jake: stretching into a giant net “On it, bro!”

Jake tries to trap the figure, but the tendrils phase through him, forcing him to shrink back. Marceline strums a sonic blast from her bass, momentarily stunning the creature.

Marceline: “Thomas, any ideas? This thing’s not playing nice!”

Thomas: eyeing the orb, which is now glowing so brightly it’s almost blinding “The orb—it’s connected to this thing. If we destroy it, we might stop the cycle… whatever that is.”

Finn: “Destroy it? But what if it’s, like, super important?”

Thomas: grimly “If it’s powering this thing, it’s too dangerous to keep.”

The shadow figure roars, its form growing larger as the orb pulses. Thomas leaps into action, using his martial arts skills to weave through the tendrils, aiming for Jake, who’s holding the orb. Just as he reaches it, a memory hits him—a scientist’s voice from Vug:
“The orb binds the Eternal One to the cycle. Break it, and you break the chain.”
Thomas: shouting “Jake, throw me the orb!”

Jake: tossing it “Catch, dude!”

Thomas catches the orb and, with a swift motion, smashes it against the ground. The chamber erupts in a blinding flash of light, and the shadow figure screams, dissolving into wisps of energy. The whispers fade, and the ruins fall silent.

Finn: panting “Whoa… did we just win?”

Marceline: lowering her bass “Looks like it. Nice move, Thomas.”

Jake: rubbing his head “Man, that was intense. What even was that thing?”

Thomas: staring at the shattered orb, his expression troubled “I don’t know… but it called me the Eternal One. Whatever Project Eternity was, I think I was part of it.”

Marceline: floating over, putting a hand on his shoulder “Hey, you did good for your first Ooo fight. We’ll figure this out, okay? Immortal to immortal.”

Finn: “Yeah, man! You’re basically an Ooo hero now!”

Jake: “And you broke that creepy orb like a boss!”

Thomas manages a small smile, but his mind is still on the shadow figure’s words. As they leave the ruins, the glowing crystals dim, and the air feels lighter. But Thomas can’t shake the feeling that this is only the beginning of uncovering Vug’s secrets—and his own.

Thomas: quietly, to Marceline “You ever get the feeling you’re part of something bigger than you understand?”

Marceline: grinning faintly “All the time, dude. Welcome to Ooo.”

The group heads back to Marceline’s cave, the sun setting over Ooo’s colorful landscape. Thomas feels a mix of exhilaration and unease, but with Finn, Jake, and Marceline by his side, he’s ready for whatever mysteries come next.

The group trudges back to Marceline’s cave under Ooo’s vibrant sunset, the sky swirling with pink, purple, and a hint of glowing green. Thomas clutches the shattered orb fragments in his pocket, his mind stuck on the shadow figure’s cryptic words: “The Eternal One… the cycle must complete.” Finn and Jake are buzzing with post-adventure energy, reenacting the fight with exaggerated sound effects, while Marceline floats beside Thomas, casting him a curious glance.

Finn: swinging an invisible sword “And then BOOM! Thomas smashed that orb like it was nothing!”

Jake: stretching into a tiny shadow monster “Yeah, and that creepy thing was all, ‘I’m gonna eat your souls!’ but we were like, ‘Nuh-uh, not today!’”

Marceline: rolling her eyes “You two are such dorks. Thomas, you good? You’re brooding harder than me, and that’s my thing.”

Thomas: glancing up, his green eyes catching the fading light “I’m fine. Just… that thing knew me. It wasn’t random. I need to know what Project Eternity was.”

They reach Marceline’s cave, the familiar rumble of Cave Wurms echoing softly. The cave is a chaotic comfort—scattered instruments, glowing mushrooms, and a faint strawberry scent. Thomas heads to his ledge, staring out at Ooo’s starry sky. Finn and Jake raid Marceline’s fridge, while she strums her bass, watching Thomas closely.

Jake: munching a red apple “Yo, Thomas, want some? Marceline’s got a whole stash of red stuff.”

Thomas: smirking faintly “I’ll pass. Still wrapping my head around a vampire who eats fruit.”

Marceline: grinning, flashing her fans “It’s a vibe, okay? Keeps me chill.”

Finn: plopping down with a half-eaten sandwich “So, what’s the plan, Thomas? You diving into this Project Eternity mystery? We’re totally in for backup.”

Thomas: running a hand through his half-white, half-black hair “I have to. That orb, the shadow figure—it’s all tied to Vug. My people chose me for a reason, and I owe them answers.”

Marceline: strumming a low note “Sounds like a quest. You’re already Ooo material. But you should hit up Princess Bubblegum. If anyone can crack pre-war tech, it’s her.”

Thomas: “You’re right. She was researching Vug. Maybe she’s found something.”

Jake: stretching into a comfy chair shape “Yeah, PB’s probably got a lab full of nerdy answers. But, like, brace for a three-hour science lecture.”

Finn: laughing “For real! Last time she explained quantum candy dynamics, I fell asleep standing up!”

Thomas chuckles, the first real laugh since the ruins. The weight of his past feels a little lighter with these new friends.

Thomas: “I’ll take my chances. Let’s go see her tomorrow.”

The next morning, the group heads to the Candy Kingdom. The streets are bustling with Candy People, some still cleaning up after the tentacle monster mess. Peppermint Butler eyes Thomas suspiciously as they pass.

Peppermint Butler: polishing a lollipop “You again, immortal human. I’m watching you…”

Thomas: raising an eyebrow “Is he always this… intense?”

Jake: snickering “That’s just Peppermint Butler. He’s got a thing for creepy vibes.”

They reach Princess Bubblegum’s lab, where she’s hunched over a glowing monitor, surrounded by bubbling beakers and humming gadgets. She looks up, surprised.

Princess Bubblegum: “Thomas! Finn, Jake, Marceline—what’s up? Don’t tell me you found another mysterious artifact.”

Jake: grinning sheepishly “Well, uh… kinda?” He pulls out the orb fragments.

PB: eyes widening “Glob’s sake, you guys! Where did this come from?”

Thomas: stepping forward “The ruins where you found my pod. It was glowing, and… it summoned something. A shadow figure that spoke my language. It called me the Eternal One.”

PB: adjusting her glasses, intrigued “Eternal One? That’s… ominous. Let me analyze these fragments.”

She scans the pieces with a handheld device, her face growing serious.
PB: “This is pre-war tech, alright. Advanced, even for Vug’s standards. It’s got traces of bio-energy, like it was designed to interact with a specific genetic marker… probably yours, Thomas.”

Thomas: tense “So it’s connected to my immortality?”

PB: nodding “Possibly. I’ve been digging into Vug’s history. Your island was experimenting with life-extension tech before the Mushroom War. Project Eternity was their big secret—something about creating a ‘perfect survivor’ to outlast the apocalypse.”

Finn: whistling “Whoa, so Thomas is, like, a super-soldier from the past?”

Thomas: grimly “I wasn’t a soldier. I was just… chosen. I didn’t ask for this.”
Marceline: putting a hand on his shoulder “Hey, none of us asked for the weird stuff in our lives. But you’re here now, and you’ve got us.”

Jake: “Yeah, dude! You’re, like, the coolest ancient human we know!”
PB taps away at her monitor, pulling up a holographic map of Ooo with a blinking dot far across the Grasslands.

PB: “I found something else. There’s another set of ruins, deep in the Grasslands, that might be linked to Vug. Old records mention a second lab where they stored Project Eternity data. If you want answers, that’s your next stop.”
Thomas: staring at the map “Then that’s where I’m going.”

Finn: grinning “Road trip! Grasslands are full of wild stuff—giant bugs, talking grass, maybe even a rogue wizard!”

Jake: stretching into a car shape “Hop in, everybody! Jake-mobile’s ready to roll!”
Marceline: smirking at Thomas “You sure you’re ready for another Ooo adventure? Things get weirder from here.”

Thomas: cracking a dry smile “After a thousand years asleep, weird is starting to feel like home.”

The group piles into Jake’s stretched-out car form, speeding toward the Grasslands. Thomas gazes out at Ooo’s bizarre landscape—trees with faces, clouds shaped like donuts—feeling a mix of anticipation and dread. The answers to his past are out there, but so are more mysteries, and maybe more shadows waiting to call him the Eternal One.
As they disappear into the horizon, a faint hum echoes from the ruins they left behind, unnoticed by the group. Something—or someone—is still watching.
