"If you're doing this to exploit my weaknesses, quit it, I'm not giving you anything confidential," Levi eyed me warily.

right right whatever

"I won't do anything that underhanded," I sighed loudly, "besides I heard your tragic backstory, if I did something like that I would just be copying someone else."

i prefer to be unique

i want my torture to be memorable

<3

"You're so fucking weird."

"As are you," I rolled my eyes, "seriously, Levi I won't do anything, now hand over the papers."

DONT WORRY I PLAN TO ASK FOR SOMETHING IN EXCHANGE

STRINGS ARE VERY MUCH ATTACHED

WHO DO YOU THINK I AM

"You-"

"Consider this a bonding exercise," I cut him off, "come on you've been stalling for the past three days, I know you had everything together the moment I offered."

levi ackerman and y/n l/n working together-

i can see the headline now

that's an interesting story

"As if I would want to bond with you."

"Likewise, I consider all of this charity," I proclaimed, dramatically extending my hand to him, "consider this advance payment for all the things I'll ask you to do later."

"Fine," he gestured to Farlan who had been waiting off to the side this entire conversation.

"Finally."

"How did the two of you even agree on this to begin with-" Farlan murmured aloud, clearly deeply confused. "Why would either of you agree to this?"

"I'm not horrible Farlan, I take care of people less fortunate than myself."

"It would be stupid to pass up an opportunity to make her suffer."

"Oh."

"Is that all you're going to say?"

"Show some enthusiasm."

"Oh!"

"Passable."

"You could've done better."

"The two of you really are similar," Farlan chuckled, handing me a stack of papers.

WHAT

"I could not be further from that thing."

"I don't pay you to insult me."

"No really," he continued, "you're the only people I know even remotely interested in those magical tools and despite how you act the two of you agree on a lot."

"Levi, are you paying him to say these things just to annoy me?"

"Why would I pay someone to say something so blatantly false?" Levi responded, frowning.

THEN WHAT IS HE SAYING

"Farlan we need to get you to a doctor," ran over to Levi hiding behind him, "I think your aide has come down with something."

"Farlan take a break- something is wrong-"

"See- even right now-" Farlan shook his head in exasperation, "I'd hate to be on both of your bad sides."

the idea of teaming up with levi makes my stomach turn but-

"You know he kinda has a point with that one," I admitted.

"Both of us have enough fucking sense to pick worthy rivals."

"THE Levi Ackerman just called me worthy? I'm honored," I gasped dramatically.

"Don't let it get to your head."

"Fine, I'll admit that you're competent in your own horrible way. It would reflect poorly on me to direct so much attention to someone completely incompetent."

"You're proving my point."

"Levi I think we should throw him out of here-"

"Agreed," Levi gestured to the door, "bring back food."

"Tea too!"

"Alright," Farlan chuckled, leaving Levi and I alone in the room.

"Are you going to stop cowering behind me and start doing work?" Levi turned in his seat, looking up at me.

oh right

"Where should I sit?"

farlan's space is totally covered in documents so there isn't any room for me there

"Pull up a chair," Levi mumbled.

huh

"What?"

"A chair."

"HUH??"

"Do I have to repeat myself?"

well yeah-

"You want me to sit across from you?"

"Are you stupid?"

"Apparently, because I'm not following-"

"Just sit down and be quiet, you wanted to help didn't you?"

"Right-"

i think i'm just alarmed that you would want to share your space with me

"Do you need help?" He sighed loudly, standing up to go pull a chair over.

wait-

"Do you need help?" I watched him quickly grow frustrated at his inability to lift the heavy wood chair, only drag it behind him towards the desk.

"It's your weak ass body."

"Sorry for being loved and pampered enough to never have to do anything by myself."

"Spoiled," he handed the chair off to me, returning to his seat.

"Whatever, you do your work and I'll do mine."

"Fine then."

WHATEVER !!

"Can you stop doing that?" Half an hour had passed, half an hour of Levi and I working in complete and utter silence.

save for the sound of papers

this is really boring

cannot stress that enough

"Doing what?" He retorted, grumbling a bit in irritation.

"Staring at me while I'm working?"

"Fuck off."

"YOU FUCK OFF."

"How else am I supposed to tell that you're doing it correctly?"

"You're supposed to trust me."

not that you know anything about that

"How am I supposed to do that?"

"You're so annoying- I do know how to do basic paperwork, believe it or not."

i'm a genius

"I-" he hesitated.

"I do not want to hear you insult me."

"Why?"

"That's a stupid question and you know it."

why do i feel like we're being meaner than usual-

"Your work is fine," Levi muttered under his breath, "I wanted to know if you needed help- shithead."

what

"I don't need help from you."

"Stop it."

"Stop what?"

"Being so fucking insufferable."

"Why are you being more of an asshole than usual."

"The same could be said for you."

WHATEVER

"We've been too nice to each other recently- what Farlan said proved it, we're losing our touch," I grumbled over at him.

"Isn't it fucking exhausting?" Levi set his quill down, "this I mean."

"Of course work is exhausting."

what do you mean by that

"No- I mean- Farlan said that shit and now we're being extra annoying, you're doing something nice and now the two of us have to compensate for that by yelling at each other."

"Exhausting? No-" I hesitated, "this is fun."

"Be honest for once in your fucking life."

a moment of silence

"Ok maybe a little-"

"Exactly."

"But what else should we do? It's not like I suddenly like you as a person- the circumstances just demand that I get along with you."

and maybe ive realized that we have a little in common

"A truce."

"A truce?"

"We only say shit when it's necessary, no sitting and thinking of something smart to say- when everything is back to normal we can go back to avoiding each other."

well- if we're being honest you've never really avoided me

"I'll have to rewire my entire brain."

"This is hard for me too."

"Oh I know."

for that very reason maybe-

"So?"

"I guess it would be funny to see you try and be nice to me."

"Likewise."

"And you have some redeeming qualities," I turned my head, refusing to look at him while I said that.

im going to be sick

"See you two are similar," Farlan entered the room, pushing a cart with tea and snacks.

"Shut up Farlan."

"Go away Farlan."

"Deal?" Levi turned to me, extending his hand.

"Deal."

something tells me i won't regret this
