"-a past experiment resulted in the swapping of bodies between two individuals?" I leaned over the table to get a better look at the line Levi had stopped at.

"That's what it says."

......

"I'm so tired of you," I sighed loudly.

"The feeling is mutual."

"Well-" I frowned, "does this really help us?"

i mean it's nice to know we aren't alone in this cruel cruel world but the book says NOTHING about how they actually returned to their bodies

"Of course it does, idiot," Levi gestured towards another line, "Hanji Zoe- the name of the person who did it."

hanji zoe-

that name is familiar

where have i heard it?

"So you're saying that this Hanji person somehow swapped our bodies within the time that you remember falling asleep and the two of us woke up?"

that makes no sense

"It's one thing to swap bodies in a controlled environment where this 'Hanji' person has easy access to both people and another thing to do it while the two of us were asleep in two different heavily guarded mansions far away from each other." I continued to rant, reading those two lines over and over again.

"Y/N-"

"I mean- research like that hasn't happened in forever- I would know-"

"Y/N."

"I'm telling you Levi, it's nice to know that this isn't the first time something like that has happened but this 'Hanji' character isn't anyone I've ever heard of before."

if she was experimenting on the human body-

it's likely that she's dangerous

this seems like a dead end

"Y/N!" He grabbed my face in his hands, shutting me up, "do you want to swap back or not?"

"Of course I do-"

"Then shut the fuck up and listen to me for one minute."

ok fine-

"Let go of my face?"

"Listen?"

"I will," I muttered, swatting him away.

"Who kept track of magical research? Published magical research."

oh well-

"Prior to our role in guarding the forest the L/N family was in charge of all of that administrative stuff-"

i mean the knightage thing is much more interesting

the period of time where we served as an ethics committee was incredibly boring to learn about

i zoned out

"Exactly."

"So?"

"You're fucking stupid."

"You're just bad at explaining-"

"Your father must know something about this," his tone full of exasperation. "You must know where those records are kept as heir."

you're right-

"I'm not sure we can get our hands on those-"

that's difficult even for me

the contents of that research were sealed away for a reason

but-

"I do know where they are," I glanced up at him, "and our issue is pretty important."

"Since when were you against breaking the rules?"

"Since breaking the rules involved interrupting my beauty sleep to drag me around a dusty library," I rolled my eyes at him. "Pretend I'm an idiot and say what I think you're going to say- I want it to come out of your mouth."

"Technically it's your mouth," he sighed, "Y/N we need to find the record of this experiment, we need to steal it."

that sounds like a lot of fun

"I can't believe you've come up with a fun plan."

"You have no faith in me."

"Who's fault is that?"

"Yours."

"You're so stupid," I reached for the book, pulling it towards me. "What if this Hanji person is dead and we can't find her through the records?"

"Don't say shit like that- it's like you want us to stay stuck like this."

"I'M JUST SAYING!"

"Quiet."

"Right- one of us has to be the realistic one- usually it's you but I think you haven't slept enough so you're being overly optimistic."

it's a little scary ngl

"You're crazy."

"Careful what you say with my mouth- what if I steal the documents and run away?"

"You wouldn't."

"You don't know anything about me-" I met his eyes, "ok you're right I wouldn't."

"We never finished the game," Levi muttered, setting the book to the side, "my turn."

oh

"I thought we had stopped-" I paused, "what are you going to ask- you hated this two seconds ago."

WHAT HORRIBLE QUESTION DO YOU HAVE FOR ME??

"Are you prepared?"

ominous

"Is that your question? That totally counts-"

"Fuck no."

"Oh."

"We don't know why this happened or what we'll have to do to go back-" a look of concern flashed over his features. "Are you prepared to figure that out?"

of course

"Do you really have to ask that? I want my body back, and if someone did this to me I'm not just going to sit back and take it." I studied his face, searching for any kind of reaction to the last statement.

the more i get to know levi

the more certain things stop lining up

but it's safer to be cautious

"I would help you."

"Look at us-" I grinned, "cooperating."

"The horror."

"Should we sneak back out of here?" I asked, gesturing towards the door.

"Put the books back for me."

"Lazy old man," I rolled my eyes, "you'll have to walk with me. I don't know where they go."

"Let's hurry, the guard should be coming by here soon," Levi nodded, picking up his pace to lead the way.

you know it's weird

"Do you remember anything from that night?" I broke through the silence, "consider this one of my questions."

"What specifically?"

"Anything from after I fell- I remember falling but everything after that-"

i remember drowning

"I don't know how the fuck you did it but I heard water and came rushing back- pulled you out of the water." He shrugged, reshelving a book.

weird

is it strange to say that i don't think he's lying?

i think-

"Did you see me fall?"

"Were you listening? I was already down the hall when you fell- I didn't see anything."

it feels like he's telling the truth

"Weird."

"You're weird, keep up."

but if he's telling the truth- who pushed me?
