"Start from the beginning," Hanji came back to the table with tea, "what happened before you switched?"

erhm

"We fought- but that happens a lot- and then I-" I hesitated, glancing over at Levi, "I fell."

im still not sure if i should mention being pushed

"She fell into a pond and drowned," Levi rolled his eyes, "I saved her."

yep

"And then at some point between him going to bed and the next morning we swapped bodies- I don't remember anything after drowning."

presumably the drowning triggered it-

but he was fine after that

i died- i think-

"I see," Hanji muttered.

"If you want to hear our argument we could probably recreate it-" I thought back to that day, "really- other than falling nothing was out of the ordinary."

"If the argument was the trigger we would've swapped back by now," Levi grumbled, "we've had the exact same fucking argument hundreds of times."

"It's not my fault you're obsessed with me."

"You wish."

"Did you have any headaches that night?" Hanji directed her question toward Levi.

"Yeah," he glanced over at me, "that isn't unusual- I get migraines and have a hard time sleeping."

"You really need to fix that- it's fucking up my face."

"I have enough to worry about, I don't need you nagging me."

"Y/N, would you say that you have strong feelings towards Levi?" Hanji was deep in thought.

I WOULDN'T PHRASE IT LIKE THAT

"Uh-"

"Don't answer that," Levi cut me off.

"I think I already know the answer," Hanji grinned, "but humor me."

"Well- I've hated him for a long time actually-"

"But?" She leaned forward.

"Recently I've decided he's alright- but back then no way-" I shook my head. "When we were 15 my reputation in high society was ruined because someone started a rumor about the two of us getting engaged. At 17 he decided that he was going to menace me at every event we attended."

"You're understating our rivalry," Levi scoffed. "She tortured me as a child."

"IN MY DEFENSE SO DID YOU."

"Ok-" Hanji pushed the two of us apart, "I think I get it."

"I mean if you think about it- it's all your fault Levi- you're the one who just had to follow me out onto the balcony and ruin my evening."

"I'm the one who fucking saved you."

"I didn't ask you to do that."

"Did you jump in?"

"No!" I scowled at him, "you know I would never do that- don't even suggest it."

i was wearing a really expensive dress that evening too

"Both of you are responsible for what happened," Hanji cut in.

"So you know the cause?"

"A hunch," she stared at our worried faces, "but I'm rarely wrong."

"How can we believe you?"

"Come on Levi- I like her- and let's be honest- we aren't going to get anyone better."

"Would you like my opinion?"

"Of course," I urged Hanji to continue.

"I believe that the tethers binding your soul to your body are weak," she directed her comment to me, "you're supposed to be dead- the transfer must have been weaker than expected."

so-

"So my soul was ejected from my body when I fell?"

"Or sometime after that," she nodded, "you didn't switch until much later."

when i died- it must've been when i died

"Then why am I in her body?" Levi frowned, trying to puzzle through it.

good question

"I would assume that she latched onto something she had a strong emotional tie to," Hanji hummed, "the headaches you were experiencing- that was probably a result of her fighting for a new body."

wow i sound kinda terrifying if you put it like that

it makes sense though

he was the last person i saw before everything-

"So it is her fault."

"No way- it's your fault for being such an easy target," I scoffed.

"Fuck off."

"Gladly," I flipped him off, "so- now what?"

"That's a good question," Hanji nodded, "I have a couple theories for how to set everything back-"

"You seem hesitant."

"It's just an interesting case," she sighed loudly, "it would be a shame to put everything back without getting at least a little bit of information. Something like this will likely never happen again- besides- I'm curious to look into your body," she continued to stare at my body, eyes narrowing.

we have some time-

"How's this," I glanced at Levi, "ask as much as you would like about the two of us now- I'm sure Levi is ok with staying in my gorgeous body for one more night."

"You're overselling yourself."

"Whatever- quit lying," I rolled my eyes. "When I'm back in my body I'll let you poke and prod as much as you want- consider it payment for saving my life."

"And in exchange?"

"Would you hear me out? About my father-" her eyes darkened at the mention of his name, "you can say no," I rushed to say. "Maybe this is asking too much but- I'd like to know more about your research- and I'm sure that he's curious," I nodded towards Levi.

he can probably barely contain himself

"No promises," Hanji replied after a moment of silence. "About your father, I would love to talk about my research."

"That's ok," I grinned at Levi, "aren't you excited?"

"Is it a crime?"

"No," I reached out for him, "I'm excited too."

"Well then! Let's get started," Hanji beamed over at the two of us.

this is going to be a long evening
