T h i r t e e n - Dashing Young Waiter

Xiaojun and Ryujin grabbed a booth.

"I guess Kun's not here yet." Xiaojun said as he scanned the place.

"Um, not to be a bitch but why are we hanging out with Kun so much lately?"

"I like him. He marches to the beat of his own drum."

"I bet the drum has a bad pun on it..." Ryujin looked up at Xiaojun shyly, her hands fidgeting.

"Sooo, while we're waiting... what do you think of Yangyang?"

"What do you mean?"

"Like, do you think Yangyang is... cool?" Xiaojun knew where this was going and he wanted no part of it.

"Of course I think he's cool. If I didn't, why would I be friends with him?" Xiaojun answered a little too sharply.

Ryujin shot him a weird look.

"Uh, okay, sorry. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, do you think he's worthy of the new girl in school crushing on him? Just a little?" Xiaojun stiffened.

He was going to have to play defense to keep Yangyang and Ryujin apart.

Again.

"No, you should not get with Yangyang."

"Really? Why not?" Ryujin deflated.

"Because... Yangyang's bad to women." Xiaojun internally cringed at his horrible lie.

"What?"

"Not like Chris Brown bad. He's just immature and selfish."

"Really? How?" Xiaojun thought for a bit before answering.

"He had a serious girlfriend before you moved here and he cheated on her."

"He did?" Ryujin managed to somehow deflate even more.

"Yeah. She was crazy about him and he slept with someone else."

"I mean, that's shitty... but we're in highschool. Stuff like that happens." Ryujin tried to plead.

"The girl he slept with was his girlfriend's cousin."

"Oh my god." Ryujin audibly gasped, bringing her hands up to cover her agape mouth.

"I know. She came to visit for the summer. From Taiwan."

"Well, maybe he really liked her." Ryujin continued trying to defend her crush.

"No. He didn't. That's the worst part. He just kept talking about how cool it'd be if he banged cousins."  Xiaojun was starting to get frustrated.

"That's really effed up."

"Yeah."

"It doesn't sound like him at all." Ryujin was visibly upset and disappointed.

"You can't say anything to Yangyang. He'd be so mad if he knew I told you."

"I won't. I promise." They sat in unpleasant silence for a moment.

Xiaojun felt like shit.

Then, Kun entered wearing a non-punny polo shirt and some product in his hair.

"Sorry I'm late."

"Hey, nice shirt." Ryujin complimented.

Kun immediately turned beet red and got a little weird.

"Oh, really? I don't know. I'm just trying something." Ryujin smiled,  a little charmed by Kun's awkwardness.

Their waiter, Winwin, approached.

"Hey guys, what can I get you?"

"Hey Winwin. Do you guys know Winwin? We have Korean together." Kun asked the two.

"Don't think so./How's it going?" Xiaojun and Ryujin said in unison.

"Actually, we had bio together last year." Winwin said to Xiaojun.

"Oh, sorry." Xiaojun apologised, earning a smile from Winwin.

"I'm going to seem like a total stalker but I'm guessing you want a banana strawberry waffle with whipped cream and chocolate chips?" Xiaojun was surprised: clearly Winwin has REALLY noticed him.

Could he be into guys?

"Yeah. I do."

"I've waited on you before and it's kind of a memorable order."

"Because I order like a 4 year old destined for diabetes?"

"No, you order like someone who knows what they want." Winwin said as he laughed.

Xiaojun smiled at Winwin, staring at him as he wrote down their order, wondering if he could be King Of Hearts.

Ryujin and Kun ran over their Oliver lines mid-meal.

Xiaojun kept casually glancing over at Winwin who was waiting tables.

"Fagin, this is my new friend, Oliver Twist." Ryujin spoke as the artful dodger.

Xiaojun checked the script and gave her a thumbs up.

Kun stared dreamily at Ryujin.

"It's your line Kun."

"That's a great British accent. You sound like Aubrey Hepburn." Kun spoke completely ignoring Xiaojun.

"Thanks. Do you need Xiaojun to give you your line?" Ryujin asked.

"Have you ever been to London?" Kun spoke now completely ignoring Ryujin.

"Nope. Xiaojun, maybe you should give him-"

"You're from Chuncheon-si, right?"

"Mhm. Let's try not to lose-"

"That's awesome. Which part?"

"What's with the third degree, Kun? You writing a book about korean girls from Chuncheon?"

"I'm naturally inquisitive. My mom says it's one of my best qualities." Kun acted fake offended.

Ryujin couldn't help but smile at Kun.

"Not sure your mom is the most reliable source."

"Are you calling Qian Yuqi a liar? Because that's blasphemy, she is a phenomenal judge of character."

Ryujin laughed and grabbed a french fry off Kun's plate.

Xiaojun watched, pleasantly surprised.

It was not exactly sexually charged but maybe Kun wasn't totally hopeless?

Xiaojun noticed Winwin standing outside on his break and decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

"Be right back."
