Chapter Thirteen

"Where are you taking me?" DJ asked, a blindfold tied around his eyes as he felt Purple lead him around. "Somewhere. I've been planning this for a while now, so I'm really excited—careful," Purple cautioned, halting DJ who almost tripped over a pig that was staring at him excitedly.

"Is that a pig? Are we in a village or something? You know the villagers give me the creeps," DJ whined as Purple shooed the pig away. Purple chuckled, continuing to lead DJ toward the skating rink he had made. "No, we're not in a village, DJ. Calm down," Purple reassured, patting DJ's back.

"Hey! Don't laugh at me. I swear they're all staring into my soul or something. It's freaking me out!" DJ whimpered before letting out an 'oof' when Purple pulled him back. "We're here," Purple said as DJ excitedly tugged at his scarf. "Okay. Can I take the blindfold off now?" DJ hopped excitedly, but not before Purple patted his shoulder.

"Not yet, I need to get something real quick, no peeking!" Purple exclaimed before a loud whoosh of air. DJ saluted and gave a curt nod before looking around blindly, scuffing his boots on the ground to check his surroundings, tapping around to feel his way. "Hmmm," DJ muttered, looking around and straining his ears to check if Purple was nearby.

Curiosity got the best of him, and he slipped a finger under his blindfold to take a quick peek.

"Ah—" DJ snapped the blindfold back on when he realized what he was looking at, his heart racing.

He hears Purple land beside him excitedly, "Did you peek?" Purple asked, to which DJ quickly responded, "Nope, never!" DJ brought his hand up and stood straight. "Alright, good. You can take it off now," Purple murmured, sounding a little shy.

DJ pulled off the blindfold and blinked at the scene in front of him—it was a skating rink. "Wow!" DJ jumped excitedly, pointing at it. "Did you build all of this?" DJ turned to Purple, who only flushed. "Well, yeah," Purple muttered, clutching the boxes in his hands tighter.

"It looks amazing!" DJ ran up to it and took a step in, but Purple called him back. "Wait! I got skating shoes for that!" Purple hurried over, placing the box down and taking out a pair of skating shoes. "Hold on, this was the box you took home a few days ago," DJ raised a brow as he set down the dirt block and switched his boots for the skating shoes.

Purple only grinned, mirroring DJ's expression. "Every time I was gone, it was just me preparing the rink... I, um, I hope you like it," Purple said as he tied his laces, standing up and averting his eyes away from DJ.

"Like it? I love it! I used to skate when I was a kid all the time! Come on!" DJ grabbed Purple's wrist and pulled him in, letting out a happy giggle as Purple followed after him.

"I used to skate too when I was a kid. My mother is an amazing skater," Purple smiled as they slowly skated around, mirroring each other's pace. "Your mother sounds like an amazing person," DJ remarked with a smile as he did a little slow spin. Purple mimicked his moves gracefully and grinned. "She is. She taught me how to skate... How about you?" Purple asked.

"Oh, actually, it was more like me skating once and then soaping my entire house floor to slide around," DJ giggled as he picked up speed, with Purple laughing and following suit as they glided around.

"This is really cool, Purp, and you've put so much effort into it," DJ said softly, prompting Purple to rub the back of his neck. "I wanted it to be a surprise. I wasn't even sure if you knew how to skate, but I planned to teach you if you didn't," he added.

"You're always so considerate, Purple. I should be the one thanking you for dealing with all my shit," DJ chuckled as Purple rolled his eyes and shook his head. "It used to bother me for a while, but I've grown to enjoy living with you. It's nice. I'm not used to having such a lively home," Purple smiled.

"The house never goes quiet with you here," Purple added as DJ blushed. "Okay, if that's your way of saying I talk too much, just so you know, I wear that badge as an honor," DJ tapped his chest proudly and looked up, but not before Purple grabbed his shoulder and steered him away from slamming into the borders.

"Sure, but no, I mean it as a good thing..." Purple smiled, looking ahead. "I'm starting to think I like having you here." DJ stopped abruptly, his skate letting out a screech as Purple kept going, only pausing in confusion and turning towards him, sliding back.

"What's wrong?" Purple tilted his head as DJ jumped excitedly, almost falling on his face if it weren't for Purple grabbing his shoulders and steadying him.

"Are you admitting you like having me here? I-I'm gonna tear up," DJ wiped a fake tear from his eye and sniffed, fanning his face as he looked up. "DJ..." Purple rolled his eyes, playfully punching his shoulder.

"Hey! I like being here too, you know! I-I'm just happy you like having me here too," DJ smiled shakily, scratching the back of his neck.

"I was worried I'm just intruding in your life," DJ said as he slowly skated, with Purple following after him. "I mean, I am technically possessing your dad, slash boss," Purple gave him a glare as DJ giggled. "Kidding, but—I know you want him back sooner or later, so I'm kind of worried that I'm just bothering you, you know?" DJ nervously tugged his scarf and looked away.

Beside him, Purple frowned, looking straight ahead.

"I know I'm not the best person to be with, probably the worst," Purple started. DJ snapped his head towards him and pouted, "That ain't true, man. You're like the coolest person alive! And if it wasn't for you, I'd be stuck in prison, still hurt!" DJ waved his arms frantically as Purple chuckled.

"That's not what I'm talking about, DJ. I know I've been very dismissive of you. You've been trying to get closer... And of course, I noticed. I just couldn't accept it yet," Purple sighed, looking away in embarrassment.

DJ let out a small chuckle, "It's fine, you know. I'm not forcing friendship on you, Purp. I can wait for that. Just so you know, I'll never stop treating you like a close friend, man," DJ grinned as Purple turned to him, surprised. "Why are you like that?" Purple huffed as DJ chuckled, tilting his head.

"Like what?" DJ asked as Purple ran a hand over his face, coming to a stop. DJ halted and slid back slowly. "You're so forgiving, so understanding... it's weird, no, not weird... it's strange for me," Purple sighed, sneaking a glance at DJ, who was frowning.

"Purp, I know there's a lot of stuff you went through, and... well, I'm sorry you had to go through that. But kindness and care don't have to be a give-and-take, you know. I care about you because you're my close friend, and I don't really want to see you getting hurt," DJ's face darkened for a moment before he smiled again.

"DJ... you're right. Being kind doesn't really need to have a reason, does it? I was suspicious of you at first. I thought you were doing it... because you needed something from me. But days turned into weeks, and I've come to realize that you're just like that... And I'm sorry for being so angry around you and for being so dismissive of your feelings," Purple sighed, rubbing his forehead.

He paused as DJ placed a hand on his head, smiling softly. "Why are you so sappy today, Purp? Stop being so hard on yourself for showing emotions like this; clearly, you're accustomed to tougher circumstances! And it's okay; you'll get used to how I go! That's why we're roomies, right?" DJ snapped his fingers and playfully did finger guns at Purple, who rolled his eyes and chuckled.

"Sure, DJ, I enjoy being your roommate, even though you keep oversleeping, and I have to wake you up several times just to get you out of bed," Purple laughed.

DJ blushed, "The bed is just so comfy, you know. It always calls for its master." He pumped a fist up, and Purple only giggled, grabbing his arm and pulling him, skating around the rink a little faster.

"DJ, I'm also—uh, sorry for the scarf—" Purple stuttered, but he was interrupted as DJ pulled him back, looking extremely excited.

"It's fine! I actually fixed it up for you!" DJ beamed. Purple grimaced, remembering the color, before DJ pulled it out and revealed a lighter purple scarf with two small stick figures knitted at the edge.

"You said you had issues with the color, so I adjusted it for you! A lighter purple so I can place you here," DJ said as he thumbed the purple stick on the scarf and the orange stick on the side.

"O-oh, DJ... Thank you," Purple said as he grabbed the scarf and thumbed the two stick figures on it. "Still, I'm sorry for ripping it apart. I shouldn't have done that," Purple stammered, but DJ took the scarf from his hands and wrapped it around him again.

Carefully placing it around Purple's neck, DJ patted his head. "It's okay. By the way, it looks nice on you!" DJ beamed as Purple grabbed the edge of the scarf, admiring the two stick figures holding hands. "It's really cute. This is us, right?" Purple grinned at DJ, who looked confused.

"Where?" DJ peered over and examined the small stick figures on the scarf before bursting into laughter.

"No, that's you and King," DJ grinned excitedly as Purple raised a brow. "I thought this would be you..." Purple trailed off, a weird sense of disappointment lingering in his chest. "I know you care about King a lot, so I added him there so you wouldn't be alone. Look how cute it is, like father like son," DJ gushed, jumping to his feet.

"Oh... Thanks, DJ," Purple said, dropping the scarf and smiling at the taller stick figure.

"Eek, I'm so glad you get to wear it now! It looks really adorable on you," DJ squealed happily, waving his arms around, almost reminiscent of how the gang showed their excitement, causing Purple to chuckle lightly.

"Wait," Purple stopped, grabbing a cookie from his inventory, letting out a relieved sigh that it was still hot. "A cookie?" DJ made a surprised face when Purple handed it to him.

"For you. I know you like your sweets as well," Purple grinned as he grabbed one for himself.

DJ gasped and grinned.

Purple then spun around, striking a silly fighting pose. "Pfft," DJ giggled and spun around, mimicking Purple. They both laughed as they skated, munching on their cookies.
