"Are you still with them?" Runaan looked, confused as to what one of the elves meant.

"With who?" he replied, turning to look at them. Another elf rolled his eyes, glaring at a figure in the distance.

"With that thing." Both Rayla and Runaan turned to look at their partner, who was busy picking berries in the woods, happily looking at the fresh fruit surrounding them. Surprisingly, the both of them hadn't even noticed (Y/N) in the distance before another pointed it out.

"'That thing' is our love, thank you very much," Rayla snapped. "If we chose (Y/N) to become our partner, who are you to judge? They're the best thing that's ever happened to us."

"Are you kidding?" the same elf sneered, pointing at them. "Look at it. The human, no less. Of all the creatures of Xadia we would've been fine for you to establish as your own, you chose a lowly human? They can't even live for that long. Only maybe one seventh of your life, at most."

"That doesn't matter. What matters is that they're here with us," Runaan commented, a hint of malice in his voice. "Who are you to judge who we choose to love?"

"Humans," the elf spat, pointing an arrow at him, "Are a bad omen. They only cause you pain and misfortune. You of all people should know that, Runaan."

"(Y/N) is different!" Rayla protested. "They're the only one who has been kind to us, without the intention of manipulating us."

"Oh yeah? And how can you be sure of that?"

"We can't! It's blind trust." The other moonshadow elf scoffed and returned to fix its bow, angrily polishing the wood.

"Blind trust my ass. If you choose to love a human, you are not a true elf." Runaan got up to his feet and grabbed him by the collar, eyes bearing into his.

"Run that by me one more time," he growled, hands clenched into fists. When his opponent remained silent, Runaan clicked his tongue and dropped him, leaving him sprawled on the ground, and left without another word. Rayla looked over at (Y/N) once more, finding an urge to join them.

"Well, we can't help it if you're too small minded to understand how we love our partner," Rayla scoffed. She stood up, glaring at her comrade. "I'm understanding more and more why everybody doesn't like you. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go."

I hummed, busying myself with my daily tasks. There was such a variety of foods in Xadia, I didn't know what to make with everything. Picking a few ripe fruits from the bush, I placed them in my basket and observed any other sunlit spots that housed plump berries.

Suddenly, I gasped as I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, lifting me up. I recognized their hands and started to laugh.

"Rayla! Put me down!" She chuckled and set me down on my feet, giving me a chaste kiss.

"(Y/N), good to see you again."

"I didn't even realize I was this deep into the woods. I didn't know you guys set up camp here."

"I hadn't known you were here until someone pointed it out."

"Well, it's all the better for the both of us, I suppose." I looked around, trying to spot a certain elf, eyes squinted.

"Where's Runaan?" As if on cue, he walking into the clearing, face immediately brightening as he spotted me. I gave a laugh and ran up to him, jumping up to hug him, arms thrown around his shoulders.

"Runaan!" I exclaimed, feeling euphoric. "I haven't seen you two in such a long time!" He chuckled and pressed his lips against my forehead. I blushed as he put his hands on my waist and set me down.

"Glad to see you too." I heard Rayla huff as I turned back to her. She had her arms crossed and her mouth turned down in a frown.

"You didn't give me that greeting," she mumbled, bitter. I snickered and started to run up to her, flinging myself at her. She choked as I tackled her, knocking her to the ground.

"Well consider this my greeting." Rayla sighed and pecked my cheek.

"You better be glad I think you're cute." Smiling, I got up and helped her get up as well, brushing the dust off of my sleeves, picking up the fallen fruit that tumbled out of my basket.

"While I here, why don't we go somewhere nice? I hardly ever get to see you two, and I think it'd be great if we finally got some alone time together." I looked up at the two of them excitedly. They exchanged glances and shrugged, eyes glued back on me.

"It's not like we really have anything to do. Everybody else is gone from the camp, except for a few who are repairing their gear. It wouldn't hurt to have a break."

"Great! I know this really nice place nearby, and I just found it a few months ago. It's a great spot and hopefully no one's there," I said, dragging both of them. "I really wouldn't want to run into a dragon." The next minutes were spent walking and hopping around, trying to find the way to the secret spot I'd told them about.

"We're almost there! Just past these trees!" We'd arrived, breaking through the tall rows of branches and leaves, uncovering a magnificent field, littered with small flowers and covered in lush, green grass. In front of us was a ravine, and a waterfall, connected by a small bridge that extended as a path for us to cross.

"Don't lose your balance!" I called teasingly, crossing with ease.

"I'd have to say the same for you!" Runaan jeered, hopping over the wood planks. I laughed blissfully as I stepped on top of the stones to go closer to the waterfall.

"Now watch closely." I slipped into the wall of water for a brief moment and disappeared, slightly drenched, but now in a newfound cave on the other side. Rayla and Runaan followed suit, running through.

I gestured to the walls lined with white and purple crystals, watching their eyes sparkle with wonder and excitement.

"So cool, right?" I whispered, giddy with joy. "I really, really, wanted to bring you guys to see it, and now I finally had the chance. Isn't it wonderful?" Rayla rushed over to embrace me, clasping my cheeks and giving me a long kiss on the lips, which I happily returned, my hands atop hers.

"It's amazing, (Y/N)."

"Please, continue," Runaan droned, his face exaggeratedly bored. I gave a small snicker and walked in front of him, leaning into his face.

"You sure you're not just jealous?"

"Maybe I am, but you don't know that." I hummed, sliding my hands over his collarbone, gazing into his half-lidded eyes.

"Okay." I then proceeded to leave, walking away. His expression morphed from one of smugness to utter disbelief as he gaped at me, watching me go back to Rayla.

"You tease!" he called, catching up with us. "You're such a tease." Rayla laughed and smacked his shoulder lightly.

"I've never seen you so embarrassed before, Runaan. You're a lot different when you're around (Y/N). Like a baby." He groaned, glaring at her while she blew a raspberry at him.

"You two are such children," I sighed, rolling my eyes. We continued down the cave, reaching a pool of hot spring water at the end. My eyes glinted, setting down my basket at the water's edge, touching the steaming liquid.

"This is what I was looking for!" I reaching into my pocket and pulled out a flask, filling it up with the water. I set it into my basket and turned at both of them.

"Now we can go into the water."

"Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, what if someone drinks out of it? That wouldn't be very sanitary."

"It filters itself, since the heat kills the bacteria. So it's perfectly safe." Runaan looked at the other elf, raising an eyebrow at the statement. Rayla returned his glance, silently conversing with him. Until they were done, I just waited, my hand still in the water.

"After a brief discussion, we're going to go with you, in the case you drown."

"Guys, c'mon!" I said, exasperated. "I want you to come with me, but still have fun! I know how to swim!" Grumbling, I took off my coat, socks, and shoes, leaving me in my dress shirt and baggy pants. Slowly, I started to go in, shivering as the heat raced up my spine.

"It's so warm," I breathed, sinking into the water. I gasped, then relaxed, my whole body in, engulfed with comfort. Rayla and Runaan were both stripped of their armor, the tight shirt and pants they had underneath still covering them.

"Oh, you're right," Runaan mumbled, the water up to his waist as he gingerly hopped in. "It is quite hot."

"That's why it's called a hot spring," Rayla snickered, her whole body already in, swimming towards me. With open arms, I let her sit in between my legs, her back pressed onto my chest. The water was up to my mouth from the little ledge I sat on, my nose barely peeking out of the surface.

Once Runaan had fully gotten in, I was scooped up in his arms as all of us enjoyed each others' company.

"This is great. I love being with you two."

"We do to, (Y/N)."
