Chapter 2
Soon it was time for lunch.
"Children, let's go to the dining room to eat!" - Yuri called the children.
After that call, the children rushed out of the classroom like a flock of broken nests, the nanny had to tell them to line up so those kids can be quiet.
As for Kiyo, since he never knew what the food was like here, he couldn't wait to get his first lunch of the place he was in.
"I wonder if it's delicious.." - Kiyo mumbled. Putting aside that curiosity, he quickly lined up to enter the room.
When they all sat down, the food was already on the table, one thing that made Kiyo even more surprised was that, before eating, everyone had to greet.
Wow, is everyone like that? Although he didn't understand why, but he still followed everyone, since many things are too unfamiliar, and he is not used to it all.
After greeting, everyone sat down to eat.
Kiyo was nervous and gently scooped the rice onto the spoon, putting it in his mouth. Although it was a meal with familiar things, it was so delicious, even better than at home. Maybe it was because Kiyo was just transferred in, but he felt like this was some kind of strange thing. An amazing experience, in Kiyo's opinion, might be etched in his memory.
By the afternoon, all of them had gathered in the class, not missing anyone. And now, they seem to be a bit less naughty, this was when the caretaker makes a decision or consulted something. What was going to happen?
"You were very good today, so what will we do this afternoon?"
Before Kiyo could answer, the whole class in unison:
"Go for a walk!"
"Okay, let's go then."
Everyone quickly exited the class, as long as Yuri said a word line up, they followed, just like a class that had been around for a long time.
First, they will pass through the flower garden and the animal barn. The girls gathered to see flowers, chickens, and rabbits. The rest of the boys chased and caught the insects without fear.
Of course, Kiyo did not go out there. He just sat on the stone bench watching the scenery, because he did not interest in such games even though he was a child.
After a while, Yuri called back and they continued on their way.
Next was going through the garage, and the buildings, and when passing through the storage area, suddenly Kiyo secretly separated from the classroom and went out there. He stood on tiptoe, or peered through the gap in the iron door to see what it was.
What is this?
Inside were all rifles, pistols, and some other types. There were daggers, batons, scissors, bows and arrows, and swords, all dangerous, sharp weapons. Kiyo panicked, thinking they were the real thing, and hurriedly ran into the line.
By the time she and her students entered the classroom, it was getting dark. Since they were at the beginning of November, so they had to hurry up.
"Did you guys enjoy the walk?"
It was fun, but only a few answered yes because most of them were tired.
"I see. You may go rest, come down to eat later and we have to prepare the blankets and pillows."
Yuri left the classroom for a moment and went down to the office.
After dinner and getting ready to lie down, while the other kids huddled together to watch their favorite shows on TV, Yuri called out to Kiyo:
"Kiyo, come here. I have something to talk about.."
The innocent boy didn't get what she meant until she asked:
"Did you leave the line this afternoon to go to the garage?"
Yuri meant that storehouse. Kiyo did not reply. Turned out that she knew, but wasn't obvious she did not turn back? Not knowing how to tell a lie, he simply replied:
"Yeah.."
"I told you not to get closer to there this morning, didn't I? You should have listened to me! Next time you do that, you'll regret it." - Her voice was trembled in both worries and slight anger.
It seems that the word regret is a difficult word for preschoolers, but Kiyo just needed to understand that he should not go to there anymore, and that is enough. Yuri stood up, clapped her hands, and said:
"Okay, kids. It's time to sleep, go back to your place!"
They pulled each other onto the mattress, still giggling. Kiyo also chose a spot in front of the window and lay down as well.
Soon after, the whole room was silent in darkness.
Kiyo had not slept yet, his eyes were still looking at the open wooden door hanging on the wall. There was a moon today and a very clear sky. And although the lights were off, the moonlight still gently illuminated the room.
He still did not fully understand what Yuri said about him sneaked into the storage area. Why were there guns with sharp objects? What did people use it for? Kiyo had also heard about people who did bad things, but why were they in this orphanage? It was hard to comprehend.
Facing down on the pillow, then turning left to the right, he couldn't sleep, all because Kiyo kept thinking about it.
Well, I guess I'm just overthinking, now I should go to sleep.
Whispering in his mind like that, his eyes gradually closed, and then fell into a deep sleep.
And that was how the first day in the orphanage ended.
Over the next few days, Kiyo gradually stopped paying attention to it, even though it occasionally crossed his mind.
