Chapter 1: I.P.U
Everyone said Kang Daniel and Park Jihoon were born for each other. Indeed, they were engaged even before they were born. Daniel's mother and Jihoon's mother were best friends. They vowed to have their kids married to each other no matter what. Although the two ladies' friendship was the sweetest. At some point, they did have to separate for several years. That was why Daniel and Jihoon only officially met each other for the first time when they went to college.
But they stuck together like glue since then. Daniel was the "I will take care of the world, you just need to love me" type of sweet man, while Jihoon was the shyer type but his love for Daniel was not less passionate. After graduating, they both started helping with their family's business and became businessmen. Despite the busy life, their relationship was unbreakable.
CEO Kang and Manager Park often saw each other under the giant cherry blossom tree in the middle of the business district's garden. There was this busy area in the city that was filled of office buildings, to the point people called it "business district". Somehow, amongst the tall buildings, they managed to squeeze in a small garden that was quite popular for office workers to have a date during their packed schedule.
Not so different from other couples, Daniel and Jihoon used the giant tree as their usual meeting place. With their company buildings at each side of the garden, it makes sense that they chose to meet in the middle, right under the cherry blossom tree. Today was like any other day, they promised to meet at lunch time.
It was spring. The breeze was still cold but so much warmer compared to winter. The wind helped sprinkling the cherry blossom petals all over the ground, on Jihoon's hair and shoulders.
Daniel made his hurried steps towards the younger and shorter guy who had been waiting with a huffing pout on his lips. It is not hard to tell how long the latter had been waiting for him just by looking the number of petals lying on his head and clothes.
"I'm sorry I'm late. I got caught up in the meeting." Daniel softly apologized while quietly catching his breath after running all the way from his office.
Jihoon didn't listen. His back was shown towards Daniel full of sulkiness.
"Hoon-ah, I'm- "
"I want to eat sushi." Jihoon's cheeks puffed out unknowingly. "Buy me sushi!"
Seeing the cold shoulders had turned around and now in front of him was the sulky face of his beautiful boyfriend, Daniel couldn't help but letting out a soft chuckle to himself. "Alright, Hoon-ah, let's go hm?"
He took the soft and smaller hand into his palm as he looked down into Jihoon's sparkling round eyes. They walked together along the road that was covered by the carpet made of cherry blossom petal.
"Do you remember what it will be next month?" Jihoon asked softly, with his voice stuffed with sulkiness still.
"Hm? Next month? Is it... our third anniversary?" Daniel emitted another soft chuckle before nastily pressed a kiss on the latter's cheek, resulting in Jihoon's face turned all red and a hit was delivered to Daniel's broad shoulders.
"S-so you remember..." Jihoon avoided the latter's eye contact and focused on the road ahead instead. His cheeks' colour was identical with that of cherry tomato.
Daniel wrapped his own scarf around the latter's smaller figure when a small smile spread across his lips. "Are you cold, Hoonie? Why is your face all red like this? Are you sick?", a hand brought Jihoon to walk closer then continued, "How can I even forget, my love? It is going to mark our journey of three years being in love with each other.... and counting..."
He took a deep breath and went on with his speech that he had prepared for quite several weeks before this day really happened, "That's why, we have been this long together and to this point that we cannot live without each other anymore, do you want to be my family so that we can live together in the same house and wake up in the same bed?"
A small box was retrieved from Daniel's pocket into his hand as he knelt on the same road that was covered with petals of cherry blossoms, "Park Jihoon, will you marry me?"
'Hang on, what? Did he just say he want to marry me?' Jihoon asked himself while still staring at Daniel who was kneeling in front of him in surprise. But he had not finished with his sulky ranting section still, how can he get cut off by such a sudden proposal that even he himself couldn't predict?
It was not that he didn't want to marry Daniel. Oh dear, who else wanted to marry Daniel more than he did? But- but-
Daniel patiently waited for Jihoon's response on one knee. Looking at the other's confusing face, he chuckled in amusement with a soft whisper, "Cutie."
Inside the little heart of Jihoon appeared a mixture of feelings. He was happy, way too happy. He was absolutely the happiest person on earth now. His heart beat too loudly that even one person standing across the garden would still be able to hear it. Too loudly that it almost jumped out of his chest and ran around humming the wedding march. All the memories flooded back through his mind out of the blue when Daniel opened the box of ring and showed him what was inside. Also, under this giant cherry blossom tree three years ago, when the sky was painted with the cherry blossom colour, and the wind only helped the petals to fill the sky even more, there was a cute and shy couple confessing their love for each other. Jihoon could never forget how hot his cheeks felt that day, when Daniel said the three magic words for the first time. The feeling was indifferent from this moment.
To make sure that his words were not ignored by Jihoon's shyness, Daniel repeated his vow once again, "Park Jihoon, I promise to love you through hardships and challenges that life throw at us. I will be by your side no matter happiness or sadness. I will always be with you. I love you. Will you marry me?"
Through a soft and muffled sniffle, Jihoon said, "Yes!"
