a simple crush

Beomgyu and Taehyun are what you would call.. oblivious. the two boys have feelings for each other but refuse to confess to the other.

it all started when they met back in 2019. they had met during summer break when Beomgyu found out that Taehyun had only recently moved to the area with his older sister.

Taehyun was starting at the same school as Beomgyu when the break was over.

the pair didn't speak much since the younger joined the school, but there were soft smiles sent across school hallways and short conversations here and there.

it was hard for them to meet during lunch breaks since they were in different year groups and their breaks started at different times.

forwarding to the present, 2022, Beomgyu is in his last year of school and about to graduate. him and Taehyun were still friends, but..

Beomgyu realised not even a year before, that he had grown feelings towards the younger boy. he knew Taehyun had some sort of feelings towards him in return, but didn't want to chance losing the boy as a friend by confessing.

it was now Beomgyu's graduation day and all of the year groups were there to watch the oldest students graduate. Beomgyu knew today was the last chance he'd have to confess.

so, when he saw Taehyun's closest friend, Huening Kai, he pulled the boy into an empty classroom and closed the door behind him.

Kai looked at him with a scared expression before sighing after realising it was only Beomgyu. the said boy was nervously playing with his hands as he began to speak.

"Taehyun.. he isn't dating anyone, is he?"

Beomgyu bit his lip in anticipation as he watched Huening Kai pull a confused expression.

"no he isn't, why?"

they fell into a silence for a few seconds until Kai realised what Beomgyu was trying to say.

"oh my God, you're finally going to confess to him?"

Beomgyu couldn't help but smile after hearing those words being said by someone else. he then nodded at Kai.

"he definitely likes me back, right?"

Huening Kai jumped and hit Beomgyu's shoulders out of excitement.

"yes! oh yes, definitely! he doesn't shut up about how good you look every day!"

those words made Beomgyu's cheeks go a light shade of pink and he let out a deep sigh of relief.

"do you uh.. know where he is?"

Kai nodded before removing his hands from Beomgyu's shoulders.

"he's in the front row near where your seat is, he made it his mission to get a seat as closest to yours as possible"

Beomgyu couldn't help but nervously sigh and raise his shoulders as he walked back out into the auditorium and over to his seat.

Taehyun was right where Huening Kai said he would be and he couldn't help but smile at the younger boy when they made eye contact. Taehyun smiled back.

just as he was about to walk closer, their principal walked up onto the main stage and called for everyone to sit in their seats.

Beomgyu bit his lip as he realised he had to wait and confess after he graduated. the whole room grew silent as the principal began reading out names.

the rows of people in front of Beomgyu became smaller and smaller until..

"Choi Beomgyu"

he stood up and glanced over at Taehyun, who was already stood up and clapping for him. he walked up to the stage and grabbed his certificate before walking back down to his seat.

the ceremony went on until every last persons name was called. it soon finished and everyone was stood with their family and friends, taking photos and celebrating.

Beomgyu was pulling out of a hug with his parents when he saw Taehyun looking at him from the middle of a crowd.

"is it alright if i-"

"go ahead, son, we saw you and that boy looking at each other the whole ceremony"

Beomgyu quietly thanked his parents before slowly making his way over to Taehyun, who was holding a singular rose. how hadn't he seen that before?

once the pair made it to each other, they stopped for a second and smiled.

"hi"

"hey"

they both laughed lightly and Taehyun reached the rose he was holding out towards Beomgyu.

"this is for you, um.. congrats on graduating"

Beomgyu took the flower with a soft smile before taking a deep breath and looking back up at Taehyun, who was already looking at him with his wide eyes.

"i have something to tell you"

Taehyun smiled back and lowered his hands to his side.

"i also have something to tell you.."

the pair both knew exactly where this conversation was leading and their smiles kept growing.

"will you miss me during your last year?"

Taehyun let out a laugh and shook his head jokingly.

"no. i definitely won't miss you waiting outside my classroom every break, or the donuts you used to get me every friday, or the-"

Beomgyu doesn't know what came over him but he couldn't help himself any longer. he cupped his hands on Taehyun's cheeks and closed the gap between them.

Taehyun gasped at the contact but slowly closed his eyes and smiled into the short, yet sweet, kiss.

they pulled away slowly and the smiles stayed on their faces.

"i like you, Taehyun"

"i like you too, idiot"
