Chapter 7

────═━┈━═────

A mysterious teenager appeared on the platform of the abandoned ship, stepping confidently off his sleek, purple vehicle. His matching helmet gleamed under the dim lights, and his presence immediately drew attention.

Y/n squinted, trying to get a better look at the newcomer. Before she could figure it out, her friends' excited voices cut through the tension. "That's Fang!" they shouted.

Her eyes widened in recognition. Of course—it was Fang. Memories of his competitive streak with BoBoiBoy flashed through her mind. She silently thanked the stars that the two were now allies; otherwise, her class would have been a constant battleground of endless challenges.

The space bugs, sensing a new threat, turned their attention to him and swarmed aggressively. Unfazed, Fang revved his vehicle and shouted, "You dare attack my friends?!"

With a dramatic motion, he summoned his Shadow Hands. "Shadow Grasp!" Massive black tendrils erupted from his shadow, grabbing the bugs mid-flight. He spun his vehicle sharply, twirling the bugs in an arc before slamming them into the abandoned ship with a massive explosion. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the area.

"Barrier Shield!" Y/n quickly activated her powers, encasing herself and her friends in a protective dome to block the debris and force of the impact. As the dust settled, she let out a breath of relief, watching Fang return triumphantly.

Fang landed on the ship and swung off his motorcycle with a confident air. "How's it going? You guys need some help?" he asked as he strode toward them, expecting praise for his heroic entrance.

For a moment, the team stared at him in silence. Then, almost as one, they burst into laughter. "What's so funny?" Fang asked, confused, looking between them. Ying pointed at him, barely able to contain her giggles. "What's up with that funny-looking hat?"

Blinking, Fang glanced at his helmet—purple with several decorative mushrooms sprouting from it. His brows furrowed in indignation. "What? There's nothing funny about this! It's the latest trend!" Y/n tried her best to stifle her laughter by looking down, but her shoulders betrayed her as they shook with suppressed giggles. Gopal jumped in, grinning mischievously. "Oh, so it's trendy to be a human mushroom now?"

Fang's face reddened as he clenched his fists. "Mushroom?! This is a safety helmet!" Despite his protests, the group couldn't stop laughing, leaving Fang fuming in frustration. Even BoBoiBoy joined in, adding, "So, is your helmet edible too?"

"Of course not!" Fang snapped, letting out an exasperated sigh. He crossed his arms and glanced around, only to stop when his eyes landed on someone unfamiliar. Tilting his head slightly, he asked, "Wait... who's this?" Y/n, realizing she had caught Fang's attention, straightened up awkwardly and cleared her throat to recover. "Uh, my name's Y/n. It's nice to meet you, Fang."

Fang looked at her curiously, clearly trying to place her face. Gopal leaned in and nudged his arm, whispering, "She's our classmate—you know, the one who's always knitting in class."

Y/n felt a small sting at Gopal's remark, realizing how little she had been noticed. However, she brushed it off, already accustomed to being overlooked. Still, BoBoiBoy noticed the slight frown on her face. He instinctively raised his hand, about to say something to comfort her, but before he could, Yaya's voice interrupted.

"Fang, did you fly that spaceship yourself?" she asked curiously.

Fang sighed, clearly exasperated. "Actually, I was in the middle of a solo flight training session. That's why I'm wearing this helmet!" He gestured at the much-mocked headgear. Gopal couldn't resist, smirking as he teased, "Yeah, yeah. 'Training,' you say."

Fang's eyebrows twitched in irritation. "It's the truth!" he snapped. "I was mid-training when I got your S.O.S. signal!" BoBoiBoy and Gopal exchanged glances, stifling their laughter behind their hands.  BoBoiBoy and Gopal exchanged glances, struggling to contain their laughter behind their hands. Fang's face flushed with frustration as he shot them a sharp glare. Before the situation could escalate, Yaya interjected, crossing her arms. "Hey! Now's not the time for this. Focus!"

Y/n, meanwhile, was scanning the surroundings to calm herself when she noticed something approaching in the distance. Her face paled. "Guys!" she called, tapping Ying's shoulder and pointing toward the approaching swarm. "Here they come again, and now they're orange!"

Ying squinted at the approaching bugs, her expression growing tense. "They're bigger than the last ones," Y/n added, her hand already switching her motorcycle's engine back on.

Ying quickly took charge. "Gopal, Yaya, Y/n—we need to protect the ship! Don't let those things drain its energy!" The team nodded in unison and got into position.

Meanwhile, BoBoiBoy revved his engine and drove up to Fang. "Let's go, Fang! We can take these things down together!" He sped off, transforming into his elemental forms and splitting into three. Fang smirked, mounting his vehicle. "Try to keep up, hero," he said, racing after him.

From her spot, Y/n found herself momentarily mesmerized as she watched the two powerhouses in action. Their seamless teamwork as they tackled the bugs head-on was impressive—and a little intimidating.

While the rest of the team stood ready to defend, BoBoiBoy and Fang made short work of the swarm, leaving no room for any of the bugs to reach the ship. Y/n sighed, lowering her defenses slightly. Resting her elbow on her vehicle and her chin in her hand, she observed the scene with a small smile. "Well," she muttered, "looks like the defense squad's out of a job—for now."

The sudden jolt of the spaceship caused Y/n to grip tightly onto her vehicle to avoid slipping off. "Our ship is moving!" Gopal shouted, his voice laced with panic as the team tried to steady themselves. Despite the motion, they couldn't leave their positions—something was still out there.

Through her helmet, Y/n could hear Papa Zola and Commander Ciciko bickering loudly over the comms. The noise made her wince. With a sigh, she tapped her controls and muted the channel. "Thank you, silence," she muttered, though her relief was short-lived. A low, ominous buzzing filled the air.

Looking up, Y/n's eyes widened in horror. A massive bug loomed above them, far larger than any they'd encountered so far. Its wings reverberated through the air, shaking the ground beneath them.

BoBoiBoy was already in action, merging into his Leaf Elemental Form. He summoned towering carnivorous plants to attack the giant bug, their snapping jaws fierce but ultimately ineffective. The creature swatted them away effortlessly, its sheer size dwarfing the plants. Fang rolled his eyes at the attempt. "That's not gonna cut it," he muttered, his tone exasperated.

The bug retaliated, striking BoBoiBoy with a brutal swipe of its massive appendage. The force of the blow sent him hurtling through the air, crashing into the wreckage of the abandoned ship. Y/n's breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding as she screamed, "BoBoiBoy!"

Y/n barely had time to process her panic when she saw something unexpected. The spaceship's solar panels extended out like giant mechanical arms and, with a swift motion, smacked the massive bug hard. She blinked in disbelief. "Huh?"

Even though she had muted her helmet's comms, Papa Zola's unmistakable laughter still echoed in her ears. "Haha! Again! Again!" he crowed, clearly enjoying himself. The defense team chimed in, shouting, "Finish it, sir!"

With exaggerated theatrics, Papa Zola bellowed, "Very well! Get a load of THE ULTIMATE SLAP OF JUSTICE!" The solar panels swung again with astonishing force, smacking the bug directly into the abandoned ship. The impact reverberated loudly, leaving behind a cloud of debris.

Y/n stared, dumbfounded. Of all the strategies she had considered, using solar panels to slap space bugs certainly hadn't been one of them. She shook her head in disbelief, only their tecaher can think this creative.

The team stood at attention in a neat line, facing Commander Ciciko, who seemed to radiate pride despite his small stature. Y/n, positioned beside BoBoiBoy, leaned slightly toward him, her voice a soft whisper. "Are you okay, BoBoiBoy?" The worry in her tone was hard to miss, her (e/c) glancing over him as if to check for any signs of lingering pain.

BoBoiBoy caught her gaze and smiled, raising both arms in an exaggerated flex. "As you can see, I'm all fine!" he declared, his voice light and cheerful. The playful gesture brought a small smile to Y/n's face, though she still couldn't completely shake her concern.

She exhaled softly, her thoughts running over the risks they had taken. Sure, being part of TAPOPS meant danger was part of the deal, but watching someone she cared about take a hit wasn't something she could easily dismiss.

"Congratulations!" Commander Ciciko's voice rang out, drawing Y/n's attention back to the present. The alien leader stood before them, his expression stern yet full of approval. "You've successfully defended the ship and demonstrated exceptional teamwork in the face of overwhelming odds!"

"Thank you, Commander!" the team said in unison, standing a little taller.

Behind them, Papa Zola chimed in with a booming laugh, appearing from nowhere to pat BoBoiBoy and Gopal on the shoulders. "Good job, my disciples!" he said proudly.

BoBoiBoy grinned and gave him a thumbs up. "You were awesome, sir! That giant bug got smacked real hard!"

"Haha!" Papa Zola laughed heartily, raising his hand in triumph. "There's a saying for moments like this!" He suddenly struck one of his signature odd poses, pointing skyward. "When in doubt, look within yourself. But if that doesn't work—smack the bug!"

Commander Ciciko cleared his throat loudly, causing Papa Zola to jolt upright in attention. The small alien adjusted his glasses, speaking with authority. "For your bravery and ingenuity during this crisis..."

Motobot approached, holding a tray with a gleaming badge on it. Commander Ciciko continued, "I hereby appoint you as Captain!" The commander had to jump to reach Papa Zola's chest, slapping the badge onto him with force. "Ow!" Papa Zola winced but quickly regained his composure, standing tall.

The commander frowned slightly and added, "But please, no more Pythagoras Theorems next time."

The team stifled their laughter, exchanging amused glances as Papa Zola struck another over-the-top heroic pose, proudly displaying his new badge. Commander Ciciko frowned slightly and added, "But please, no more Pythagoras Theorems next time."

Y/n stifled a laugh and nodded in agreement. The small commander struck the TAPOPS pose proudly, and Papa Zola immediately mirrored him with enthusiasm. "Thank you, Commander!" Papa Zola exclaimed, striking an exaggerated stance.

Motobot's screen flickered to life, showing Fang in the cockpit of his ship. "We should also thank Fang for his assistance," Motobot said. Their ship, still drained of energy, was now being towed by Fang's spacecraft en route to the TAPOPS station.

"Thanks, Fang!" the team called out in unison. "You're welcome!" Fang responded with a grin, striking what he probably thought was a "cool" pose.

BoBoiBoy smiled. "And thanks for helping pull our ship. We're lucky you showed up. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't." Papa Zola clapped a hand on BoBoiBoy's shoulder, his laughter booming through the room. "Haha! Wouldn't have been half as funny, that's for sure! Right, mushroom-boy?"

Y/n stifled her laughter once again, but Fang's face flushed red with indignation. "What did you just call me, sir?!"

Before anyone could intervene, Fang scoffed and shook his ship's controls with a dramatic flourish. The sudden jerk caused the TAPOPS ship to collide lightly with a drifting asteroid. Chaos erupted as everyone lost their balance, yelling as they stumbled into one another. Y/n sighed, quickly grabbing onto the nearest chair for support. Shaking her head, she muttered under her breath, "Why do you have to provoke him..."

Five hours had passed, but the TAPOPS team still hadn't reached the station. The monotony of space travel had begun to settle in. In their shared room, the members of Combo Y had resigned themselves to waiting. The large observation window provided a stunning view of the galaxy, its vibrant stars and swirling nebulae offering some solace from the boredom.

The boys had started their journey playing cards enthusiastically, but after countless rounds, the excitement wore off. Even Papa Zola, who had initially been animated in his storytelling and antics, had slumped in his seat, snoring lightly.

BoBoiBoy sighed deeply, dropping his cards onto the table. Resting his chin on his hand, he glanced over his shoulder. His gaze landed on Y/n, who was seated nearby, completely absorbed in her knitting. A small basket of colorful yarns rested on her lap, and her brow was furrowed in concentration.

The steady motion of her hands, creating intricate patterns with the yarn, contrasted sharply with the restlessness of the boys. BoBoiBoy found himself staring, curious about the calm focus she radiated in the otherwise dull atmosphere.

"Dey, if you're so curious, why not just ask her what she's doing?" Gopal said, giving BoBoiBoy a playful nudge. BoBoiBoy jolted slightly, caught off guard. "What? I'm not— I mean, I'm just wondering! That's all," he stammered, his cheeks puffing in mild irritation.

Gopal leaned back in his chair, smirking. "Uh-huh, sure. You've been staring for a good five minutes. Just admit you're curious." The elemental boy huffed, crossing his arms. "Fine, I am! But it's not like I want to bother her. She seems focused."

"You're overthinking it," Gopal said with a shrug. "She's always knitting. I bet she'd like someone to show interest. Besides, we don't really know much about her, do we?" BoBoiBoy paused at that, glancing back at Y/n, who was still quietly working on her knitting project. Gopal's words struck a chord. It wasn't about bothering her; it was about getting to know a teammate better.

With a sigh, BoBoiBoy stood up. "Alright, I'll go," he muttered, ignoring Gopal's knowing grin as he approached Y/n.

Y/n, absorbed in her knitting, didn't notice BoBoiBoy standing behind her. He hesitated, not wanting to disturb her, but his curiosity got the better of him. Quietly, he watched as her hands moved deftly, working the yarn into a specific shape. The motions were fluid, almost mesmerizing, like she'd done this a thousand times before.

As the knitted piece started to take form, BoBoiBoy tilted his head. It was yellow, spherical, and looked strikingly familiar. His eyes widened with recognition. "Is that... Ochobot?" he whispered, his voice laced with awe.

The barrier girl froze mid-stitch, and BoBoiBoy realized his slip immediately. Her head turned, her brows furrowing slightly in surprise as her eyes met his. "BoBoiBoy?" she said softly, a mix of confusion and curiosity in her tone.

"Hi! Uh... how are you?" BoBoiBoy stammered, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. His awkwardness made Y/n chuckle as she placed a hand over her chest, calming her startled heart. "I'm fine, BoBoiBoy," she replied gently.

A moment of silence stretched between them, BoBoiBoy shifting slightly on his feet while Y/n's hands hovered over her knitting. Sensing his unease, she tilted her head. "How did you know it's Ochobot? I haven't even added his eyes or any details yet." BoBoiBoy exhaled a soft laugh, scratching his head. "Well... I just kind of guessed. Ochobot's pretty unmistakable."

Y/n smiled warmly, her eyes softening at his nervousness. Without missing a beat, she held out the needles. "Would you like to join me?" BoBoiBoy blinked, startled by the offer. "Really? You don't mind?" Her laugh was light and comforting, like a soft breeze. "Why would I mind? It's just knitting. Come on, sit."

Encouraged by her easygoing demeanor, BoBoiBoy sat beside her, his initial awkwardness melting away. Y/n handed him some yarn and needles, carefully showing him the basics. Her hands occasionally brushed his as she guided him, and he couldn't help but grin at how patient she was.

"Like this?" BoBoiBoy asked, his stitches messy but filled with effort.

"Not bad," Y/n replied with a soft giggle. "For a beginner, it's actually pretty good!" She looked up to meet his eyes, but suddenly realized how close they had gotten. Her breath hitched as she noticed their noses were mere inches apart. BoBoiBoy, caught off guard, froze as his brown eyes locked onto her (e/c) ones. For a brief moment, he could see his reflection mirrored in her gaze.

Realizing the proximity, Y/n quickly leaned back, her cheeks flushed. She coughed lightly, trying to break the awkward tension. "Sorry... I got a little too excited and didn't notice how close I was."

BoBoiBoy blinked rapidly, snapping out of his daze. He waved his hand dismissively, a nervous smile tugging at his lips. "N-no, I don't mind at all!"

Y/n tilted her head, raising an eyebrow. "Don't mind?" she echoed, clearly puzzled.

BoBoiBoy's eyes widened in realization, and he panicked, waving both hands in front of him. "No, I mean—uh—I didn't mean it like that!" He let out a groan, dragging his hand down his face. "Ugh, that sounded so dumb." Y/n couldn't help but chuckle at his flustered state, her initial embarrassment easing. "It's fine," she said softly, picking up her knitting again.

"You're the second person to show interest in my hobby, BoBoiBoy," Y/n said softly, her voice tinged with an unexpected vulnerability. Her fingers paused over her knitting as she looked at him, a small, wistful smile forming on her lips.

BoBoiBoy tilted his head, puzzled by the change in her tone. "Really? But you're so good at it. Why wouldn't more people be interested?"

Y/n hesitated for a moment before meeting his gaze again. "Not many people think this hobby is... interesting," she admitted, her voice quieter now. "I've heard people call it boring. They don't say it outright, but you can tell. Their expressions, their quick nods—they don't really care." Her fingers fidgeted with the yarn as a faint sadness flickered in her eyes.

She sighed softly, her gaze dropping to the unfinished project in her lap. "Sometimes, it feels like something I care so much about doesn't really matter to anyone else. Like... it's not worth sharing." There was a weight in her words, an unspoken longing for connection and understanding.

BoBoiBoy frowned, a pang of guilt hitting him for not noticing sooner. He leaned forward slightly, trying to catch her gaze. "Hey, I think your hobby is amazing. You're creating something with your own hands—something unique. That's not boring at all, Y/n." His words were earnest, his voice carrying a warmth that made her glance up in surprise.

Her lips curled into a small, genuine smile. "Thanks, BoBoiBoy. That means a lot."

Gopal, who had been watching the entire scene out of sheer boredom, finally turned to Commander Ciciko at the helm. "How much longer until we reach the TAPOPS Space Station?" he asked, his tone dripping with impatience.

"We're almost there!" Ciciko declared confidently. Gopal rolled his eyes. "You say that every single time we ask!" His frustration was met with a dismissive scoff from the Commander. "Just keep yourselves entertained!"

BoBoiBoy glanced over at the Commander, then back at the others. "We're done with that. We've played so many rounds of cards, and we keep losing to Papa Zola!" He gestured toward their teacher, who was snoring loudly in his chair.

"Really?" Y/n asked, curious as she paused her knitting. "Yeah," BoBoiBoy groaned. "You should try a few rounds with him. It's brutal."

"Why can't we just use Ochobot's teleportation power?" he added, clearly exasperated. The Commander shook his head sternly. "Give him a break!" Gopal flopped dramatically onto the table. "Can't this thing go any faster? Are you sure we're not lost, Ciciko?"

The Commander froze, his single eye narrowing dangerously. Spinning his chair around, he barked, "HOW DARE YOU IMPLY THAT WE'RE LOST, CADET?!" The sheer volume of his outburst startled everyone in the room. The cadets sprang to their feet in unison, except Y/n, who stayed seated but looked equally alarmed. The rest hastily adopted the TAPOPS salute. "Apologies, Commander!" they shouted, trying to contain their panic.

"It's just a bit of waiting, and you're already complaining," Ciciko said with a sharp tone, pressing a button to change the display. The screen flickered to life, revealing the face of Fang, the shadow manipulator.

"Fang!" Ciciko barked. Without missing a beat, Fang snapped into the TAPOPS pose, exuding discipline. "Yes, Commander!" Ciciko gestured for silence before continuing, "Tell them the longest time you've ever spent in orbit during a mission."

Fang puffed out his chest slightly, his voice steady with pride. "One month, ten days, and ten hours, Commander! We ran out of supplies and had to survive on pillows and blankets."

BoBoiBoy and Gopal exchanged sly looks. They couldn't resist. Speaking in perfect sync, they mimicked in a mocking sing-song, "Blah, blah, blah! Had to survive on pillows and blankets! Bet you were just sleeping the whole time, right?"

Fang's proud expression quickly shifted to annoyance, his jaw tightening as he glared at the two. Y/n sighed softly and shook her head at the antics. "Can't you two ever take things seriously?" she murmured under her breath.

Fang's voice rose in indignation. "You guys don't believe me?! I—" He was abruptly cut off as the screen blinked out, replaced by an urgent message: INCOMING TRANSMISSION

The screen flickered again, revealing a panicked alien shouting frantically. Thankfully, the message was translated for everyone to understand "Help! TAPOPS Space Station is under attack!"

"What?! Under attack?!" Ciciko exclaimed, his voice rising with alarm. The alien's desperate cries continued. "Send help now—!" Before he could finish, a loud crashing noise echoed from the transmission, and the screen cut out abruptly.

Everyone froze, stunned. Y/n's eyes widened in disbelief. She gasped, covering her mouth with one hand, stepping forward toward Ciciko, who frantically tried to reconnect the signal. The room was thick with tension, the weight of the situation sinking in as they realized the gravity of what had just unfolded.

Y/n immediately snapped into action, performing the TAPOPS salute. "Commander! I'll take the others and retrieve Ochobot!" she declared with urgency.

Ciciko nodded firmly. "Do it quickly, Cadet!"

"Yes, sir!" Y/n turned sharply to the boys, who stood frozen with confusion. "What are you waiting for? Let's go!" She grabbed their hands and pulled them along, her determined pace leaving no room for hesitation.

BoBoiBoy furrowed his brows as they hurried down the corridor. "What's going on?" Without slowing down, Y/n shot a glance over her shoulder. "TAPOPS Station is under attack!" she shouted.

"WHAT?!" the boys exclaimed in unison, their voices echoing through the halls.

They arrived at the Power Sphera resting chambers, and Y/n quickly pressed the access button on the wall. The doors hissed open, revealing the room where the Power Spheras were kept in their charging cocoons.

Ochobot turned to see them, his holographic face lighting up in surprise. "Huh? What are you guys doing here—ehhh?!" His question was abruptly cut off as BoBoiBoy scooped him up without hesitation.

"Sorry, no time to explain!" BoBoiBoy said as they bolted back out of the room. Ochobot, though confused, quickly assessed the situation and activated his systems, ready for whatever lay ahead.

The team sprinted back to the control room, their footsteps echoing in the halls. When they arrived, they found Yaya and Ying already there, standing at attention.

BoBoiBoy immediately brought Ochobot forward, holding the Power Sphera's small hands to mimic a salute. "Ochobot, reporting for duty!" he declared with a hint of enthusiasm to lighten the tension.

Commander Ciciko didn't waste a moment. "Ochobot, open a portal to these coordinates immediately!" he ordered, pointing to the screen displaying the coordinates of the TAPOPS Station under siege.

"Understood!" Ochobot responded, his voice carrying resolve. His energy core glowed brightly as he activated his ability. "Teleportation Power!"

With a flash of light, a swirling portal materialized in front of them, its edges crackling with energy. Fang's ship quickly pulled their ship into the portal, Y/n put her hand on her chest hoping the situation will be fine.. at least.
