Chapter 8
────═━┈━═────
The ship glided to a halt at the TAPOPS Station, its imposing structure looming in front of the team. Y/n gazed out of the window in awe at the sheer size of the station, but her admiration quickly turned into confusion. The exterior was eerily dark, with none of the usual lights that should have illuminated the station.
"Why is it so dark?" Y/n wondered aloud, frowning. Through the comms, Fang's voice broke in. "Good question. That doesn't look normal."
The ship touched down with a gentle thud as Commander Ciciko's fingers flew over the keyboard in front of him. Once he finished entering a command, he turned to the team sharply. "You four! With me! Move out!" He jumped from his seat with precision and authority.
"Yes, sir!" BoBoiBoy and Fang chorused without hesitation, snapping into action. Gopal, on the other hand, hesitated, clutching his seat nervously. Y/n blinked in surprise as the Commander's order included her, but quickly straightened up to comply.
"Yaya, Ying, and Ochobot," Ciciko added without missing a beat. "You're on ship watch duty."
"Roger that, Commander," the trio replied in unison, their voices steady and composed.
The group stepped out of the ship, their boots echoing softly on the metal platform. The dim lighting barely illuminated the vast, shadowy station, and the only other sound was the occasional flicker and hum of broken lights on the ceiling.
Y/n felt a creeping unease as she scanned the dark surroundings. Unable to shake the feeling, she instinctively moved closer to BoBoiBoy, her fingers curling into the fabric of his jacket.
BoBoiBoy felt the faint tug on his clothing and turned to see Y/n's anxious expression. Though her face betrayed her worry, she didn't say a word. He gave her a small, reassuring smile but didn't call attention to her gesture.
Before he could speak, Gopal hurried closer and clutched BoBoiBoy's other arm. "I'm scared, BoBoiBoy!" he whimpered, his eyes darting nervously around the station.
Commander Ciciko stopped abruptly and turned to face them, pressing a finger to his lips. "Shh! Quiet! We need to be cautious," he whispered firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
The door slid open to reveal a grand dining hall filled with long tables, each adorned with an array of untouched food. Despite the abundance of meals, the room was eerily empty. Fang frowned as he glanced around. "Usually, this area would be packed," he muttered, his voice echoing faintly in the stillness.
Y/n's eyes fell on the plates of food, a strange unease tightening her chest. "But now there's no one here," she murmured. The desolate atmosphere felt like something out of a horror film—a genre she didn't fear or particularly believe in. But the oppressive silence and shadows weren't what unsettled her the most. It was the creeping sensation that pulled her back to a deeply buried memory.
Many years ago, during a game of hide and seek with her mother, Y/n had stumbled upon what she thought was the perfect hiding spot—a small, dark room. Excited by the idea that her mother wouldn't find her, she had slipped inside and waited, her heart racing with the thrill of the game. But as the minutes dragged on, the thrill turned to dread.
The room was pitch black, and she couldn't see a thing. The silence pressed against her ears like a weight, and the realization that she was utterly alone sank in. Panic bubbled up, and she began to cry, her tiny sobs breaking the stillness. It was only thanks to her crying that her mother finally found her, scooping her up in a comforting embrace.
In the dimly lit, empty hall, the suffocating loneliness gripped Y/n like a shadow creeping in from her past. She tried to shake the feeling, to focus on the present, but it clung to her like an anchor pulling her down. Her breaths became shallow and uneven, betraying the calm she usually displayed.
Beside her, BoBoiBoy felt the increasing pressure of her grip on his jacket, so tight that it nearly halted his steps. Concern etched across his face, he glanced down and saw the tension in her features, her expression clouded with unease.
"Y/n?" he called out gently, his voice low and cautious, but there was no response.
Acting on instinct, he placed his hand lightly over hers. The warmth of his touch seemed to cut through the haze of her spiraling thoughts. She jolted at the sudden contact, her head snapping up to meet his worried gaze. Her (e/c) eyes were wide with surprise and a hint of vulnerability, a rare sight that caught him off guard. "What's wrong?" he asked softly, his voice steady but filled with concern.
Realizing what she'd done, Y/n's face flushed with embarrassment. She quickly released his jacket, stepping back as she avoided his gaze. "Nothing... Sorry for gripping your clothes like that, BoBoiBoy," she said, her voice unsteady as she forced a smile, trying to wave off the moment like it was no big deal.
The shaking tone of Y/n's voice didn't escape BoBoiBoy's notice. He knew she wasn't telling the whole truth. While he wanted to gently press for more, he decided against it, respecting her space for now. Instead, he offered her a small, reassuring smile. "It's okay. Just let me know if something's bothering you, alright?"
Y/n hesitated but eventually nodded, thankful for his understanding. Her mind swirled with lingering unease, but she was determined to push through it.
Suddenly, a chilling laugh echoed through the station, freezing everyone in their tracks. Gopal let out a whine, "What was that?!" Commander Ciciko's sharp gaze snapped upward. "It's coming from the top floor! Follow me!" He gestured for them to follow as he led the way to the elevator, his every step brimming with urgency.
The group hurried after him, adrenaline beginning to spike. Ciciko typed a code into the elevator's control panel, and the doors slid open. They filed in, the cramped space filled with a tense silence as the elevator ascended.
With each floor, the laughter grew louder and more distinct, sending a chill down their spines. Commander Ciciko turned, his expression serious as the elevator neared its destination. "Prepare yourselves. Whatever's causing that sound is waiting on this level."
Y/n tightened her grip on her watch, sweat dripping down her temple as she prepared to activate her barrier power. The unknown loomed ahead, but she steeled herself, ready to face whatever came next.
The elevator doors slid open, revealing an overwhelming darkness that stretched out like a void. Y/n's breath hitched, her chest tightening as her eyes darted around the impenetrable black. Her thoughts became a torrent of dread, memories clawing their way to the surface. The suffocating atmosphere brought her back to that day—lost in the dark, where silence had been her only companion, and she had felt completely, unbearably alone.
The fear seized her body, rooting her to the spot. Her legs felt like lead, unyielding despite her mind's desperate pleas. Her teammates had stepped out, their figures already swallowed by the gloom, but she couldn't follow. Every rational thought dissolved into waves of anxiety, crashing into her, one after another.
Her heart hammered in her chest as doubt consumed her. "What if I slow them down? What if I can't pull myself together when they need me most?" The words echoed cruelly in her mind, compounding her rising panic. Her fists clenched, trembling at her sides, her nails digging into her palms as though grounding herself would help her push through the paralysis.
Her breath came out in shaky gasps, each one a reminder of how fragile her calm facade truly was. She hated the vulnerability coursing through her now—the fear that made her feel small and incapable. "I don't want to hold them back. I can't let them see me like this."
The darkness seemed alive, pressing in on her, suffocating her composure. A small, panicked voice screamed within her, urging her to break free, to overcome, but the oppressive weight of her anxiety kept her anchored to the ground.
Her struggle went unnoticed until a warm hand gently covered hers. The touch startled her, snapping her out of the spiral as her gaze shot up. BoBoiBoy stood in front of her, his expression filled with concern. His quiet presence broke through the storm raging within her, pulling her back to reality even as her body trembled. "Want me to hold your hand while we walk?" he offered with a kind smile, his voice calm and reassuring.
Y/n stared at him for a moment, the sincerity in his words cutting through her fear. Her lips trembled slightly before she nodded, gripping his hand tightly as if anchoring herself. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible but filled with relief.
The elemental boy didn't expect a calm and collected person like Y/n to have a fear of the dark. From the moment he first met her, she had always seemed cheerful and composed, radiating confidence even in tense situations. She never hesitated to step up or support others, and her ever-present smile often gave the impression that she was unshaken by much.
However, moments like this reminded him how little he actually knew about her deeper fears or vulnerabilities. Y/n rarely spoke about herself during their conversations, preferring to shift the focus to others or the tasks at hand. While their chats were friendly and casual, they seldom ventured into personal territory.
BoBoiBoy couldn't help but wonder what else is she hiding behind that calm demeanor? The realization stirred a mix of curiosity and respect within him. It wasn't easy to be vulnerable, especially in a team setting, and yet, seeing her push through her fear to move forward with the group earned his quiet admiration.
The shadow manipulator boy still walking but suddenly his feet stomp on something. He look down and hummed in question, the purple hair boy lean down and picked up the cards "what's all this?" as he watch clearly to the cards.
BoBoiBoy, Y/n, and Gopal huddled around Fang, curiosity drawing them closer to the deck of cards in his hands. Y/n tilted her head, taking a closer look. Each card bore the image of a unique alien character, with attack and health indices in the top right corner and a small number of stars adorning the top left. She furrowed her brows, murmuring, "What's with all these cards?"
BoBoiBoy leaned in, equally puzzled. "Yeah... What even are they?"
"It looks like... some kind of card game?" Y/n speculated hesitantly, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Ciciko's posture stiffened, his sharp gaze falling on the faint, scattered trail of cards leading further down the corridor. A sense of unease prickled at the back of his mind. "Huh? No way..." he muttered under his breath before barking, "Follow that card trail!" Without hesitation, he took off down the hallway.
The team immediately followed, Y/n glancing down at her hand. BoBoiBoy had instinctively grabbed it, gripping tightly as they ran. She could feel the warmth of his touch as it steadied her nerves. A question flitted through her mind—Why does he care so much about me, even though we've only met a few times?
Her lips quirked into a small smile at the realization, and she concluded something simple yet profound. "Well... it's because he's a hero, right?"
The door slid open with a soft hiss, and the group stepped cautiously into the room. Darkness swallowed them whole, the oppressive silence unnerving even the bravest among them.
"It's so dark, I can't see a thing," BoBoiBoy complained, squinting to make out anything in the pitch-black space. As if on cue, the lights suddenly flickered on. Everyone shielded their eyes momentarily before glancing around the now brightly lit room.
"What just happened?" Fang muttered, hand at the ready. They turned to see Gopal proudly standing near a power panel, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Commander Ciciko's voice thundered across the room. Gopal flinched at the scolding and quickly defended himself. "What?! You said it was dark! Someone had to do something!" Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose, her expression saying all too clearly, Really?
But the tension was suddenly shattered by a haunting, lilting laugh that echoed from the far end of the room. All heads snapped toward the sound, and a figure emerged from the shadows. Dressed in an outlandishly colorful clown costume, he exuded a creepy, unsettling presence.
In the blink of an eye, the clown stood before them, his piercing eyes fixed on Ciciko. "So it's you, Ciciko," he said in a mocking, theatrical voice. Commander Ciciko bristled in recognition, his usually composed demeanor cracking. "Jokertu?!" he exclaimed, his tone laced with surprise and irritation.
"Jokertu?! More like Joe," Gopal interjected confidently, earning confused stares from his teammates. "What?!" BoBoiBoy shot him a baffled look. "How'd you know that's Joe?"
"Guys it's Jokertu not Joe..." Y/n sighed, a sweatdrop forming. Fang laughed "Hahahaha! That's Jokertu!" he fell on the floor as still laughing as the team look at him speechless
"What's so funny?!" Jokertu suddenly snapped, his sinister expression twisting with anger. Without warning, he yanked a glowing card from the mouth of a helpless Power Sphera and flung it directly at Fang.
"GET IN THE CARD!"
"Fang! Watch out—!" Y/n's voice echoed sharply through the room as she lunged forward, panic surging in her chest. But it was too late.
The card made contact, enveloping Fang in a burst of dazzling energy. In an instant, his laughter ceased, and he was pulled into the glowing vortex. When the light faded, a single playing card drifted to the ground. The card now bore a picture of Fang mid-laughter, frozen and powerless.
Y/n and the others gasped in horror.
"No... Fang!" BoBoiBoy whispered, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Jokertu sauntered over, humming a cheery, mocking tune as he picked up the card. He examined it briefly before scoffing, "Tsk. Only one star? Pathetic." Without hesitation, he flicked it carelessly over his shoulder like garbage.
Y/n's instincts kicked in as she bolted forward, catching the card just before it hit the floor. Her breath trembled as she stared at Fang's frozen image. "He's in here... He's really in here."
BoBoiBoy approached, his jaw tight with concern. "Fang! Can you hear us?!"
Before anyone could respond, Gopal grabbed the card from Y/n, his own fear bubbling over into frantic desperation. "Fang! Come out! Come out, okay?! This isn't funny!" He shook the card wildly as if he could somehow free their teammate through force alone.
"Useless," Jokertu mocked with a cruel grin. "You're all just toys waiting to be collected!" Y/n's head snapped up at his words. Her heart raced as she watched Jokertu pluck two more cards from his hand. This time, he raised them high and threw them straight at the team.
"NO!" Y/n's voice cut through the chaos as she sprinted ahead of the others. Her instincts took over as she extended her arm and summoned her Barrier. The familiar blue light began to form—but suddenly, it flickered. Her barrier disintegrated before her eyes, vanishing like mist. Shock rooted her to the ground as her mind reeled.
"What...?" she breathed, looking down at her wristwatch in disbelief. Jokertu cackled gleefully as he plucked a fresh card from the air, its surface glowing with energy. "A two-star barrier user? How disappointing."
Y/n's heart dropped as she turned to see—horror dawning on her face—that her Barrier had been absorbed into a card.
"This can't be happening..." she whispered, her mind racing. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught the glimmer of something else materializing into a card—a small, helpless bottle that Gopal had knocked over earlier.
Jokertu grinned wickedly, pulling a handful of glowing cards from his belt and flinging them at the team. The cards zipped through the air like glowing projectiles. "Look out!" Commander Ciciko shouted, lunging forward. He shoved the group aside just in time, sending Y/n, Gopal, and BoBoiBoy tumbling to the floor as the cards narrowly missed them.
Panting and scrambling for cover, they ducked behind a large table. The air was thick with tension as BoBoiBoy turned urgently to Commander Ciciko. "What do we do now, Commander?! We can't even get close to him without—"
Ciciko cut him off, his voice sharp and deliberate. "Listen to me! We have to be careful—he's able to capture us into those cards!" His gaze darted cautiously over the edge of the table.
Y/n's mind raced as she put her hand on head, determination masking the unease still lingering in her chest. Then, her focus snapped to Gopal. "Gopal! You have to distract him!" she said in a sharp whisper. Gopal spun toward her, eyes wide. "Why are we have distractions- " Before he could say more, an unsettling voice rang out above them. "Are you hiding from meee? " Jokertu's sing-song voice chilled the room.
The group froze. Slowly, they looked up in horror to see Jokertu standing atop the table, his face split by a menacing grin. He waved mockingly. "Hi! Were you all playing hide and seek? Found you~!"
"AAAAH!" the team screamed in unison as panic broke loose.
In a domino of chaos, Gopal shrieked and pushed Y/n forward. "GO, GO, GO!"
"Gopal!" Y/n yelped as she stumbled, crashing into Ciciko, who grunted at the impact. Together, they staggered like a clumsy train away from the table as they hide under another table, Jokertu's delighted laughter echoing in their ears.
Meanwhile, BoBoiBoy clenched his fists, determination igniting in his eyes as he planted his feet firmly on the ground. Electricity crackled around his watch as he clenched his fists. "Elemental Power!" he roared, his energy intensifying. "BoBoiBoy Lightning!"
A brilliant surge of lightning enveloped BoBoiBoy as his form shifted, sparking twin blades in his hands. Electricity arced wildly around him, illuminating the room in flashes of light. "Lightning Blade!" BoBoiBoy shouted as he hurled the crackling weapon toward Jokertu.
But with a smug grin, Jokertu leaped aside effortlessly. "Too slow!" he mocked. He snapped his fingers, conjuring glowing cards that flew toward BoBoiBoy's blades. "Card Toss!"
To everyone's shock, the lightning blades froze mid-air, the energy dissolving as they transformed into glowing cards. Jokertu caught them with a laugh. "Ooo~ Even your fancy powers are just fuel for my deck!"
BoBoiBoy stumbled back, eyes wide. "Wait, even my powers can turn into cards?!"
Commander Ciciko's face hardened, assessing the growing danger. He grabbed Gopal by the wrist. " We need to contact Yaya and Ying! Fast!" From their hiding spot, Y/n watched with rising tension as BoBoiBoy's form flickered again. Refusing to give up, he slammed his fists together. "Elemental Power! BoBoiBoy Earth!"
With a ground-shaking roar, BoBoiBoy Earth drove his fist into the floor. Jagged spires of rock erupted, tearing toward Jokertu in a rapid surge. But the villain burst into laughter, easily evading the attack with cartoonish grace, dancing between the spikes as though performing a waltz.
"Mwahaha! Not bad, not bad! But you'll have to do better than that!" Jokertu taunted, spinning theatrically. "BoBoiBoy, use your leaf elemental!" Y/n shouted impulsively, her voice cutting through the chaos.
The elemental noded as he raise his watch "Elemental Power! Boboiboy Leaf!" The more Jokertu throw cards, the more he throw his leaf shuriken "Haha! You missed! Being pissed at his laugh, Jokertu suddenly pulled out a bizarre scepter-like stick with a flourish, charging toward him with surprising speed. .
Y/n's heart raced as she watched the danger close in. BoBoiBoy managed to dodge just in time, summoning thorny vines from his wrists to tangle Jokertu's scepter. The villain snarled in annoyance, trying to wrench it free.
Meanwhile, Y/n turned her head and caught sight of Commander Ciciko and Gopal. The commander was frantically trying to activate the communicator on Gopal's watch. With a flash of relief, Yaya and Ying's holographic figures appeared on the screen.
"Commander! What's happening?" Ying's voice crackled, worry etching her expression. Before Ciciko could answer, Gopal took the watch, panic in his voice. "THERE'S A CRAZY CLOWN TURNING PEOPLE INTO CARDS! HELP!"
"Cards?!" Ying gasped.
Before anyone could react further, Papa Zola's voice boomed comically through the communicator. "Hoho! Turning people into cards? What about credit cards?"
A visible vein popped on Y/n's forehead. She snatched Gopal's wrist, her voice snapping through the tension. "WHO CARES ABOUT THAT?! Just get here already!"
The team didn't get a moment to breathe. Suddenly, BoBoiBoy Leaf fell hard onto the table above them, vines sprawling uselessly in every direction. All eyes shot upward to see the stunned hero groaning from the unexpected drop.
Jokertu cackled from above, staring at his disheveled target. "Well, well! Look who's already down for the count!" With alarming speed, the villain raised his scepter high, ready to bring it crashing down on BoBoiBoy.
Y/n's heart skipped a beat. Without hesitating, she sprinted out of cover. "Barrier Shield!" A shimmering barrier materialized just in time, intercepting Jokertu's strike with a deafening clang! The force rattled her, but she held her ground.
At the same moment, Gopal leapt out beside her, his face panicked as he point at Jokertu's staff "Jelly Strips Blast!" A sugary, gelatinous beam shot from Gopal's hand, striking Jokertu's scepter. In seconds, the staff warped and wobbled, transforming into an oversized, gooey strip of jelly. Jokertu blinked down at it, stunned into silence.
"...You turned my staff into JELLY STRIPS?!?" the clown exploded, his face reddening with anger.
Jokertu snarled and unleashed a whirlwind of glowing cards. Deadly sharp and gleaming ominously, the barrage cut through the air with a hiss.
"Move!" Y/n shouted, grabbing both Gopal and BoBoiBoy's wrists as they dived back under another table. The cards sliced through everything in their path, shattering furniture and leaving deep gouges in the walls. Wood splinters rained down, Jokertu's maniacal laughter echoing like a bell tolling their doom.
Ciciko crouched behind cover, grimacing as he turned to BoBoiBoy. "Do something, BoBoiBoy!" BoBoiBoy flinched under the pressure but quickly pushed himself up, determination setting in his eyes. "I've got an idea! Elemental Power... BoBoiBoy Wind!"
A surge of energy flared as his form shifted, clothes and hair whipping wildly as he leapt atop the nearest table. "Cyclone Whirlwind!" he roared, sweeping his arms outward. A spiraling vortex of wind exploded from his position, engulfing Jokertu in a fierce, swirling gale. Cards scattered chaotically through the air, the villain struggling to maintain his footing as the force battered against him.
"Gah! Stop ruining my game!" Jokertu howled, his laughter now broken into frustrated growls. "Now's our chance!" Ciciko ordered sharply. Without hesitation, the team sprinted toward the door, Gopal yanking Y/n along with an extra push. "Hurry! Move, move, move!"
The team stumbled out of the room one by one, adrenaline propelling them forward. Behind them, the cyclone raged on, Jokertu's shouts growing fainter.
