"What took you so long?" I asked, watching as Levi finished buttoning up his nightshirt.

"I had to pick up something I had made the last time we were here," he hummed, joining me in bed. "That's where I heard the pregnancy rumor."

"When did you get the time for that?" I chuckled, moving over slightly so he could get comfortable.

aside from the 20 minutes i spent in the bookstore

"When you were pretending to have left me with those kids, I stepped out and made an order."

"If you took so long to come back because you went on a date with some noblewoman I won't hold it against you," I teased, poking him in the stomach.

"Unfortunately my date got interrupted," Levi caught my hand, our fingers interlocking. "But I'll let you know when there's a next time."

"I went back to the bookstore today- that blonde guy from before wasn't there."

i think that we should take gabi and falco with us when we go back they're cute

"Let's go to sleep Y/N," Levi murmured, pulling my head to his chest.

you must be tired

"We're definitely going to be called to the palace tomorrow," I mused quietly to myself, fiddling with the hem of my nightgown.

"Exactly why we should go to sleep," he yawned loudly.

im restless because of it

"We have them nearly backed into a corner. I shouldn't worry about it."

"No you shouldn't."

"I'm worried about it."

i get the feeling that they might do something drastic

on one hand an attempt on my life might do more good than harm

"Don't be worried Y/N," his arms found their way around me, pulling me close. "If they pull any shit we'll be ready."

im worried because i feel like they aren't going to go for physical harm

they're annoying but they aren't stupid

"Even if something does happen I'm not going to leave you, they're searching for a justification to force us apart but-" he paused, meeting my gaze. "I don't mind being painted as a victim, I only mind you being portrayed as the villainess."

"You already are the victim," I joked dryly.

"Ok fine," I paused, luring him into a false sense of security, "babe."

"I'm sleeping on the couch."

"Promise-" Levi looked down at me, frowning.

"Fine fine, I promise not to try out any more pet names."

"And?"

"I'm going to try to go to bed now."

"Thank god, I'm exhausted." Levi got comfortable again.

Levi fell asleep first, his steady breathing filling the room.

i really can't believe that he's supposed to be the one who has a hard time falling asleep

i feel like i'm usually the one watching him sleep

I moved closer to Levi, wrapping my arms around his sleeping form.

tomorrow is going to be long, i should rest while i can

I fell into a deep dream, of the library back home, of the beginnings of spring, of a small private wedding ceremony.

of promises kept and new promises made

but mostly I dreamt of a warm hand holding mine, of kisses pressed to intertwined fingers, of reassuring squeezes rooting me to the moment.

the kind of warmth that makes it hard to wake up

The two of us woke up at the same time, the sun filtering through sheer curtains cast patterns on the heavy blanket.

"Good morning."

"Morning."

"How much do you want to bet there's a messenger on the way for us?"

"How much do you want to bet he's already here?" Levi chuckled dryly.

"They would've already woken us up," I groaned, stretching.

"I'm sure that Hanji is fighting them off right now."

"Please, I could use a few more minutes, I was having a good dream."

"You and me both," Levi sat up, wiping the sleep from his eyes.

"What did you dream about?" I beamed, sitting up with him.

"Nothing," Levi turned away from me refusing to make eye contact.

ok so it was definitely something

"So steamy you don't want to talk about it?"

"Absolutely not."

"Whatever you want to say <3"

"You seem a lot happier than last night," Levi shot me a small smile, "I'm glad."

oh well-

"I had a really good dream that's all," I sighed happily, beaming at him.

"Oh?"

A knock at the door cut him off.

"Looks like we'll have to talk about our dreams later," I glanced at the door, and then back at him.

"Or we could slack off-"

"You know we can't."

"I know," he pouted slightly, pulling me towards him. "I really want to."

"So do I," murmured, planting a kiss on his jaw.
