"Tell me seriously, what is the harm in Historia's plan?"

im confident in her success

i want to support her because it's better for us in the long run

it sounds like the ball is already in motion anyway

"I don't want us to get involved in anything else, I want to protect our happiness," Levi frowned, shifting in his seat. "I already told you that, that's what started this argument."

you-

"You weren't listening to my opinion, that's what started this argument," I retaliated, I could feel myself getting heated up again. "It's not that I don't agree with you-"

i mean i don't but

i appreciate that he's looking out for us

i just think it's shortsighted

"Then what's the issue? Let's not get involved in something that has the potential to hurt our future," he muttered in response.

it's more complicated than that

"So what? You want to just sit here and allow the prince and the first princess to gather their power and succeed the throne?"

you're not stupid levi- you know what would happen then

"Your sister has more than enough power to take over with or without us," Levi sneered. "Our involvement has more potential to harm us than it does to protect us."

stupid

"I thought you were going to listen to me?"

ill just go back to sleep if that isn't the case

"Alright, continue." He sighed loudly, ultimately deciding to shut up and let me speak.

"If Eren takes over the first thing he's going to do is tear me down, you know that."

"I do."

"So then why aren't you in favor of this plan? It has the potential to create a future in which we don't need to worry about any of that. Isn't that the goal?"

or have we not been on the same page this whole time?

"I'm worried Y/N," Levi looked down at his hands, avoiding eye contact with me. "I understand you, but I'm worried."

i'll listen

"Come here," I murmured, patting the spot next to me in bed. "Come here, let's talk."

"Haven't we been doing that the whole time?" Levi chuckled, making his way to the bed.

"No, we've been arguing."

"I hate that."

"Me too."

"I admit it was shitty of me to start accusing your sister of not caring about you, I said that because I was angry, I'm sorry." Levi started, his gaze looked hesitant, "but it's true that it bothers me."

that's fine

"Think whatever you want, Historia has been nothing but nice to me."

"If you forget about all the time she spent not acknowledging your existence."

true

"Couldn't you say the same thing about me? I have younger sisters who I've never spoken to, if Historia is horrible I might just be worse."

i mean- i know how that feels and i've never done anything to change

what cruel world did we grow up in?

what place made me the way i am?

"There's nothing wrong with not talking to someone you never had a relationship in the first place. There is a problem with starting to talk to someone as soon as they rise to any sort of position of power, that's what she did." He made eye contact with me, sighing a little, "Look, I don't doubt that she's a good person," Levi assured me. "She would make a very competent ruler, but I'm worried about her ambition."

that feels like it would only be a positive thing in this situation?

"Ambition can be both positive and negative, isn't it unfair to condemn her for that?"

we're ambitious people levi

"She is more than willing to drag other people into her plot," Levi quickly continued cutting me off before I could get another word in. "Regardless of whether or not you support her, it does not change the fact that she is using our struggle to advance her cause."

you're right- but it shouldn't be a problem as long as we support it

"So?"

"What happens in the future?" Levi asked, "she's proven herself more than capable of looking at the tools in front of her and picking the sharpest one. The ducal household is very powerful Y/N, it's likely that we will be called upon in the future."

oh

"That's a great skill for a ruler to have," I smiled at him, reaching for his hand. "If you're worried about that perhaps I should start avoiding you too."

think about it levi

"You-"

"I understand, I know what you're worried about."

but really

"So we should-"

"Hold on. If you're really worried about that I want to ask you to start by firing Hanji."

"Why would I do that? Hanji is incredibly competent- and you like her."

well of course i do

she's a wonderful person

much like everyone you've taken under your wing

"Alright then, if you refuse to fire Hanji how about Farlan?"

"I need Farlan."

"Why?"

"He's someone I picked myself, he's talented and trustworthy."

exactly

"One might even say that he's a powerful tool," I rolled my eyes at him.

you're too similar

"That's different," Levi muttered, realizing what I was getting at. "For starters, all of my employees are there willingly, we have contracts, and I compensate them fairly."

ok then there's our solution

"So why don't we go back to Historia and ask for that?"

i'll admit that i was wrong

"Ask the princess for a contract?"

yes

"I was wrong Levi," I apologized, "I'm sorry for yelling at you without understanding your concerns, and-" I faltered. "If we go there and Historia doesn't agree to drafting a contract and setting terms for some sort of agreement we can walk right out of there and I'll admit that I was wrong about everything."

that's the least i can do

"No need to go that far."

"I mean it."

i really do- i don't think that historia is trying to use us in that way but

if she doesn't agree to a contract that image will have shattered

so in the event that it happens- i will admit that i was wrong

"Alright then, should we go to sleep?"

"That would be nice," I beamed, pulling the blankets back over us.

"I love you."

"I love you more."

"Impossible."

"I love you enough that I'll let you believe that."

"Goodnight Y/N."

"Goodnight Levi."
