I winced at the bright sunlight filtering through the sheer curtains as I opened my eyes, mentally preparing for whatever I was about to see.

A soft grumble interrupted my train of thought, my eyes latching onto Levi's sleeping face.

I let out a long sigh, moving closer to Levi to brush the hair out of his face.

On closer inspection they probably weren't lying.

It's not that noticeable from far away but he has dark circles.

He's a grown adult he should have a good sleep schedule by now.

I mean- Levi acts like he has it all figured out but I don't think he does.

Come to think of it I really don't know anything about the previous Duke and Duchess-

There aren't even any pictures back home.

It's probably just another layer to Levi's edgy backstory.

"Hey," Levi paused, grabbing my arm, preventing me from leaving, "are you ready?"

"Well I'm not dressed yet, I still have to brush my teeth, and say hi to Mr. Squid."

"There's absolutely nothing I can do about it but get ready."

I have to do it anyway I might as well go in there looking hot

"Get out now-" I pushed Levi out of the room, calling Petra and Kuchel into the room.

"You can't just ki-"

"Bye Levi!" I shut the door in his face turning back towards the room.

RIGHT OK GIRLS LETS GET READY

Petra and Kuchel quickly got to work laying out clothing and ribbons, speaking in hushed tones between each other.

They're just as stressed as I am.

Kuchel helped me into the blue and white dress, adjusting the bow that tied off the dress at the waist. Petra began working on my hair, braiding small blue and white flowers into it. The two of them worked together adjusting and picking out other accessories, continuing to talk quietly with each other the whole time they made adjustments.

I'm not sure if I feel more or less stressed after all of this-

"We're done," Petra breathed a sigh of relief helping me out of the dresser chair.

"Thank you both," I let go of a breath I had been unconsciously holding.

Right lets go- 

"Are you ready?" Levi shot me a reassuring look, as the carriage we were riding in slid to a stop at the entrance to the first princess's palace.

I'm so nervous.

"I feel sick," I murmured, glancing outside at the rose garden that led up to the main building, the large dome pavilion the event was being held at visible in the middle of a tall hedge maze.

"Calm down, I have business with the King after this so I can't stay- but you'll do fine," Levi paused thinking for a minute, "at least pretend to be calm, they can't do anything to you if you pretend to be unphased."

This is different then what happened back home-

I don't have the same power over the people here

"Do I look that bad to you?" I tried to distract myself by fixing my hair in the window.

I'll just ignore her if I have to-

I'm one of the five most powerful women in this kingdom-

Right there are going to be people there who will be looking to get close to me

I should focus on them

Not the people who are aiming to get under my skin

"The dress suits you," Levi responded, averting his eyes, and coughing awkwardly.

"Thanks," I murmured in response, glancing at the floor.

"We should get going," he groaned pushing open the door, offering me a hand as he left.

"You're going to be just fine," Levi murmured, leading me through the maze, his arm linked comfortably in mine.

"I'm trying to make my face look scary, approachable, and in love all at the same time, it's taxing."

"You're doing fine."

"You should try to look super in love as well, the first princess would hate it," I grumbled, counting down the seconds as we neared the event.

I'm going to have to speak to people

"How the fuck do I look super in love?"

"I don't know?????? Maybe smile???? Or do something coupley ????"

"I DIDN'T SAY THAT."

"Good, I'm not doing it."

"You thought about it though didn't you," I teased, elbowing him lightly.

"What would the first princess say if she saw you attacking me in the middle of her pretentious rose garden?"

"Well, I'd probably be thrown into a dungeon- so you'd better make sure she doesn't see it :/"

"I would get you out."

"That's good to know- I'll probably be stealing some of the food if its any good so-"

"You act like I'm starving you."

"I understand that as a vampire you wouldn't understand that us humans need to eat but- have some consideration 4 me <3"

"I'm not a fucking vampire."

"Sure."

"Fuck you, we're here," Levi came to a stop at the entrance.

"What now?" I glanced over at the ladies all currently not so subtly looking over at the two of us.

"She'd be annoyed if I looked super in love," Levi chuckled, tucking a stray hair behind my ear.

"Are we out of earshot?"

"I assume so."

"I'm nervous."

"I know," he hummed his arms wrapping loosely around my back, "you'll be fine, I'm sorry I can't stay longer."

"You keep on saying that."

"I do, it's the truth."

"Hey," I trailed off, glancing to the side.

"Yes?"

"I'll steal extra food for you <3" I leaned forward kissing him lightly on the cheek before turning and rushing off.

"I'll look forward to it, I'll pick you up later," Levi called after me, before turning off and disappearing into the hedge maze before I could look back at his reaction.
