A little explanation of the title.

Visions of Gideon is a song by Sufjan Stevens (If you want, you can listen to it with the last chapter, it'll go quite well but I don't think it'll last for the entire chapter, maybe it will idk) In the lyrics of the song it says, "Is it a video?" multiple times, I used this line to show Mark reminiscing over his time with Johnny and to show him grieving over the end of their relationship. It was him asking if the relationship ever really happened or if it was just a picture or a dream.

Okay, now who is Gideon? He was a Jewish man who had visits from God. Gideon worshipped and loved god more than anyone. He was mesmerised when god appeared in front of him but he was young and doubtful so he'd always ask himself if his visions were even real but god came back and gave him a conquest. Once the conquest was over, god or his visions never reappeared again.

Mark is Gideon and Johnny is Gideon's visions or just god.

Mark is a young jew (in this book because irl Mark is a christian boi) like Gideon while Johnny was a god like creature who visited his life and who disappeared after his work finished (his Heraclithus book, sounded kinda mean without the brackets lmao) The song is like Mark asking whether their summer love (and his first love) was true just like Gideon kept asking if his visions of God were real.

I hope I explained this well enough.

There were 2 names I had for this book, 'Visions of gideon' and 'I am you' but I went with 'Visions of gideon' because it sounds elegant and I just really liked the name lmao. So anyways, thanks for reading and ily besties <3
